UBEC Boss Leads Inspection of Delta’s Digital Basic Education Initiatives ~ Truth Reporters
The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Aisha Garba, on Wednesday led a high-powered delegation of education stakeholders on an inspection tour of selected basic education facilities in Delta State to assess the state’s technology-driven initiatives and digital education management systems.
The inspection covered Uzoigwe Primary School and the headquarters of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (D-SUBEB) in Asaba.
The visit formed part of activities for the 30th Quarterly Meeting of basic education stakeholders in Nigeria, which is being held at the Unity Hall, Delta State Government House, Asaba.
The delegation comprised the Deputy Executive Secretary of UBEC, Executive Chairmen of SUBEBs from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as senior education officials.
The team was conducted round the facilities by the Executive Chairman of D-SUBEB, Hon. Samuel Mariere, who highlighted the state’s innovations in technology-enabled teaching, learning and education administration.
At Uzoigwe Primary School, the delegation inspected a technology-enabled learning environment where modern digital equipment has been integrated into classroom instruction and the curriculum.
The visitors observed facilities supporting interactive teaching, digital content delivery and virtual connectivity, providing pupils with learning opportunities beyond the conventional classroom environment.
The delegation was also briefed on Delta State’s artificial intelligence and data-driven education initiative, Attend360, which officials said operates on a dedicated server where language models are trained and managed.
The platform provides an integrated digital ecosystem for teaching, learning and education administration, while real-time data generated through the system enables education managers to monitor school activities, strengthen planning and make informed decisions.
Garba expressed appreciation to the pupils and parents who came out during the holiday period to welcome the delegation, describing their reception as heartwarming.
She commended the pupils for their discipline, respect and exemplary conduct, noting that such attributes reflected the quality of academic and moral instruction being provided by the school.
The UBEC boss also praised the youthful teaching workforce, saying their energy and capacity to embrace digital innovation positioned them to play a critical role in advancing technology-enabled teaching and learning in Nigeria’s basic education sector.
The delegation later visited the D-SUBEB headquarters, where officials demonstrated the Attend360 digital attendance management platform.
The system, which enables real-time monitoring of staff attendance, was presented as part of the Board’s digital transformation efforts to strengthen accountability, improve workforce management and enhance efficiency in basic education delivery across the state.
Speaking on the significance of the visit, Mariere said it underscored the importance of collaboration, innovation and the exchange of best practices among education authorities.
He said the tour provided an opportunity for states to learn from Delta’s experience and identify initiatives that could be adapted to improve basic education delivery in other parts of the country.
Mariere added that the visit reinforced the commitment of UBEC and the various State Universal Basic Education Boards to leveraging technology to expand access, improve quality and strengthen governance in the basic education sector.
He said the adoption of digital solutions was consistent with the renewed efforts of the Federal and state governments to reposition basic education and deliver better learning outcomes for Nigerian children.
