CVR: Aniocha North Chairman, Chinye, charges residents to perform their civic duty ~ Truth Reporters

The Executive Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Council, Hon Bazim Emma Chinye, has urged eligible voters who are yet to have voters card, to avail themselves of the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration ( CVR) exercise organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC).

The Chairman assured the people of the local government area that logistics arrangement have been put in place to  ensure that the INEC CVR team, moves from community to community to attend to eligible voters, assuring that Aniocha North will meet it's target in the not too distant future.

Speaking with newsmen in his office at Issele-Uku , headquarters of the local government area, the Aniocha North Council Boss , acknowledged the financial strain earlier encountered by eligible voters to travel from their various communities at personal cost to Issele Uku , to partake in the CVR exercise, a situation he said resulted in low figure turnout.

He added that coupled with the present economic realities being faced by many people in the rural areas, such trips to only one designated registration point in the LGA, clearly frustrated the entire process to shore up an appreciable number of registrants, but with this new measure of logistics support for the INEC personnel to move to the various communities, and coupled with massive sensitization to the people , success will be recorded in the CVR exercise in Aniocha North.

Said the Aniocha North Council Boss: "We have gone back to the drawing board , and from next week, we will be taking them ( INEC) to the various communities, unlike what was hitherto obtainable when our people have to travel from their communities to Issele-Uku, for the CVR exercise. We have spoken to them ( INEC) and they agreed with our suggestion of going to the various communities to register our people. We are doing this in collaboration with Aniocha North stakeholders in order to ensure maximum success of the exercise".

Hon Chinye therefore appealed to the people , especially those eligible at 18 years and above without voters cards , to turn out enmasse for the exercise which will come to their various communities , reminding them that it is their civic duty to vote people who will be held accountable for their welfare and provision of dividends of democracy to them.

He debunked the notion that voter apathy is the best way to go , stating that "if you say the system is not good and you don't vote, how will you correct the system?".
