Be beacons of good conduct, decency, Oghojafor DOU VC, charges 2025/2026 SUG Executives ~ Truth Reporters

The Vice Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University ( DOU), Asaba, Professor Ben Oghojafor , has urged the 2025/2026 Students Union Executives of the institution, to maintain high standards of good conduct and decency as representatives of the students.

He equally charged them to be faithful to their responsibilities and diligently serve the students who have entrusted them with the responsibility of pandering to their interests at all time, adding that unionism is not for self aggrandizement , but for service to their constituents.

The Vice Chancellor gave the admonition on Thursday January 22nd , 2025, while inaugurating the Students Union Government ( SUG), Students Representative Council ( SRC) and Halls of Residence Executives , at the 250 lecture theatre of the University .

Represented by Professor Patrick Ajieh, Oghojafor charged the newly inaugurated student union leaders to shun any acts of violence , cultism, drug abuse and any other related social vices, admonishing them to take their studies seriously while defending the cause of students .

The Dennis Osadebay University Vice Chancellor pledged to cooperate with the student leaders to ensure that the welfare of students is paramount, but noted that such should be channeled through the office of the Dean of Students for prompt attention.

In his remarks, the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr Lucky Enakirerhi, informed the congregation, that the inaugurated students union leaders as well as their pioneer predecessors were made up of persons with high academic grades , representing the best in the institution.

Earlier the outgoing and pioneer SUG President, Comrade Ukwamedua Ifechukwude Joan, expressed gratitude to the students of the institution for their confidence in entrusting her to lead them.

She noted that inspire of hurdles of academic concerns, welfare issues and miscommunications, her executive body found strenght in collaborations and succeeded together.

In his acceptance speech , the newly inaugurated SUG President, Comrade Onyia Nnamedum George, a 300 level student of the department of International Relations , promised that his administration will focus on improving academic support, enhance campus facilities, and promote students welfare.

According to him, "we will also prioritize inclusivity , ensuring every student feels represented and valued".

The highpoint of the inauguration which was attended by the Registrar, Mrs Isioma Genevieve Obadan, University Librarian, Dr Nelson Edewor ( represented by Dr Lucky Urhiewhu), ASUU Chairman DOU, Dr Chuka Ebodili, Dean Faculty of Science, Dr Wesley Okiei,  and Director of Quality Assurance, Dr Francis Ndudi, was the administration of the relevant oaths of office on the new students executives, by Barrister Catherine Ehiwario, of the Legal unit of DOU.
