Building Peace in Delta: Akpodiete Foundation Trains Vigilante, Community Leaders on Conflict Resolution ~ Truth Reporters

 

The Olotu and Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete Foundation has marked its 7th anniversary with a landmark lecture and training on "Conflict Resolution and Neighborhood Watch", aimed at strengthening peace and security in Delta State.

 

The event, held at the Unity Hall of Ughelli South Local Government Secretariat, drew over 100 participants, including vigilante leaders and community stakeholders from across the LGA.

 

Representing the Executive Chairman of Ughelli South, Hon. Lucky Avweromre, PhD, the Council Secretary, Olorogun John Akaruayen Ewenede, commended the foundation for its initiative. 

He urged participants to put into practice the knowledge acquired, stressing that community security begins with individual responsibility.

 

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ughelli South, CSP Oluwole Oladipupo, also lauded the programme, describing it as timely and impactful. He noted that the training would go a long way in reducing communal conflicts and violent crises within the LGA.

 

In his keynote presentation, security consultant, Mr. Sylvester Obose, highlighted the need for synergy between local communities and security agencies. 

According to him, only through sustained collaboration can conflicts be effectively managed and prevented.

 

Speaking on behalf of participants, Chief Henry Abizor expressed appreciation to the foundation and its Executive Director, SPY ACP Olotu Akpodiete, PhD, for the gesture. 

He assured that the skills and tools provided would be put to use in safeguarding communities.

 

In his remarks, SPY ACP Akpodiete thanked the LGA Chairman and the DPO for their support, charging participants to be proactive in conflict resolution and vigilant in reporting security threats.

 

As part of the programme, the foundation distributed security communication gadgets to vigilante groups in Ughievwen, Olomu, and Ewu clans, as well as mobile sound systems to community leaders. These tools, he said, would enhance grassroots capacity for early warning, information sharing, and peacebuilding.

 

The training, stakeholders agreed, is a bold step in consolidating the foundation’s mission of fostering peace, security, and community resilience in Delta State.
