Iteire reiterates commitment to sustainable environment in Isoko North ~ Truth Reporters

Isoko North Council Chairman, Hon Christian Iteire has reiterated the commitment of his administration to ensuring a cleaner and healthy sustainable environment for the well-being of the people of Isoko North and for businesses to thrive.

Iteire stated this on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at his office in Ozoro, when the staff of the Local Government Council's Department of Environment under the auspices of Isoko North Chapter of the Environmental Health Workers' Association of Nigeria (EHOAN) paid him a visit over this year's Environmental Health Day with the theme, Prioritising Environmental Health for Healthier Communities.

Assuring of the support of his administration towards the initiatives and events been put up by the International Federation of Environment Health (IFEH) Council to celebrate the World Environmental Health Day, Hon. Iteire noted that, "we need an healthy Environment to stay healthy. This is so because, when a place is not hygienic or healthy, one can easily contact an avoidable diseases and falls sick".

"So for us to have a Day like this, then we should maximize the advantages by getting fully involved and make sure the people of Isoko North are sensitized not only about the idea, but about the implications and effects of having waste in all places, littering the Environment. Yes, we need to sensitise the people to keep their Environment clean and healthy, and also, for healthy recovery of our green and brown Environment thereby ensuring a fertile ground for economic utilization"

Calling on members of the public to put in personal efforts geared towards reducing public health scourge by actively engaging in daily sanitation and seeing to an hygienic Environment, the Isoko North Local Government Council Chairman expressed the determination of his administration in ensuring an healthier Environment for healthy living and Economic boom.

He revealed, that he has held meetings with President-Generals of Communities in ensuring strict compliance to environmental cleanliness by the grassroot people and, plans by his administration in having a functional Cemetery, also the setting up of an Environmental Task Force, regular fumigation of public places and premises, and a well managed dumpsite as a result of the compelling imperative of ensuring orderliness and cleanliness of the Environment.

While appreciating the Staff of the Local Government Council's Department of Environment for their diligence, commitment and coorperation since his assumption of office as Council Chairman, Hon Christian Iteire assured of the reactivation and the functionality of the Environmental Complaint Desk domiciled in the Council's Environment Department dealing on all issues relating to environment, and called on members of the Public to always, appropriately lodge their complains as regard to their immediate environment through the desk office.

Earlier in her remarks, the Head of Environment Department, Sanitarian Edith Oko appreciated the Council Chairman for his support to the Department and ensuring regularity of sanitation in the local Government Area.

She stated, that, as environmental health practitioners, they are saddled with the responsibilities to ensure that the environment in the air, homes, workplace, school, shopping and recreational centers among others are safe and hygienic for a healthy living by enforcing Government regulations and enabling laws. Sanitarian Oko appealed for more support of the administration in addressing the environmental challenges in the Local Government Area.

Present during the visit were the Secretary to Local Government Council, Hon David Ejoor Igbuduma, the Head of Personnel Management, Barrister Henry Obukeowho, the Supervisor for Environment, Mr Alebe Joshua Onos, the Administrative Assistant to the Chairman, Mr Eboh Onome and the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Mr Ajiri-Oghene Oreh.
