Conference of Speakers Joins Kebbi Government to Bury Late Speaker Ankwai in Zuru ~ Truth Reporters
A delegation of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, led by its Chairman, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, was in Zuru, Kebbi State, to pay last respects to their fallen colleague, the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Usman Mohammed Ankwai.
Rt. Hon. Ankwai passed on last Monday in Cairo, Egypt, after a brief illness. His remains was flown into Abuja, en route to his hometown, Zuru, for burial in accordance with Islamic tradition.
The Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Abubakar Umar Argungu, led the state government delegation that received the body of the late Speaker for the final journey to his Creator.
The Chairman, Conference of Speakers and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Guwor Dennis Emomotimi, and his colleagues participated fully in the solemn reception at the airstrip where the body was received before it was conveyed in a motorcade to his compound in Zuru.
Rt Hon Guwor was accompanied by the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio; the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala; former Speaker and Member of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dajoh Aondona; former Speaker and Member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dewan Gabriel; and the Director-General, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Mr. Busari Sarafadeen.
At the residence of the late Speaker, Rt. Hon. Guwor, on behalf of Speakers of the State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.
The delegation later paid a condolence visit to the Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasir Idris, to commiserate with him and the people of the state over the passing of the Speaker of the State Assembly.
Speaking during the visit, the Conference Chairman, described the death of Rt. Hon. Ankwai as tragic and prayed God to grant his soul peaceful rest.
The Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasir Idris, appreciated the delegation of the Conference of Speakers for standing with the State in its moment of grief, describing the visit as a show of solidarity and brotherhood.
