Neglect Of Internal Auditing Aiding Corruption In Nigeria – SWAIAP President ~ Truth Reporters
President of the Society for West African Internal Audit Practitioners (SWAIAP), Patrick Nzechukwu, has linked the neglect of internal auditing by successive governments to the persistence of corruption in Nigeria.
The SWAIAP President made the disclosure at a briefing ahead of the organisation’s inaugural induction, investiture and fellowship award billed to hold in Lagos on September 25, 2021, with the theme: ‘Internal Auditing: Effective Tool for Anti-Corruption, Risk Management, Controls and Corporate Governance.’
He called on government to demonstrate political will to fight corruption using preventive methods.
Nzechukwu, who would be officially installed the President/Chief Executive Officer of SWAIAP, said that government was not sincere in the fight against corruption, saying "if they were, there should be overt commitment to encourage internal audit in ministries, departments and agencies,"
He called for a review of the recognition of external audit over internal audit.
