IRG Alleges Plot to Undermine Niger Delta Security Gains, Disowns Forged Letter to Tinubu ~ Truth Reporters

The Isoko Renaissance Group (IRG) has raised alarm over what it described as a calculated attempt by impostors to undermine the recent security gains recorded in the Niger Delta through a forged open letter purportedly addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a strongly worded statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Aghogho Oletu, the group categorically disowned the publication, which was credited to an organisation bearing its name and allegedly signed by individuals it insists are neither members nor recognised representatives of the IRG.

The group clarified that the Isoko Renaissance Group was formally established in 2020 with a clearly defined mandate focused on promoting Isoko development, good governance and leadership accountability. It stressed that it operates a strict membership structure and transparent leadership process, which does not include any of the individuals named in the controversial letter.

According to the IRG, the publication was not only fraudulent but part of a deliberate effort to destabilise the existing pipeline security architecture that has significantly reduced crude oil theft and illegal refining activities across parts of the Niger Delta.

The statement further questioned the credibility of one of the individuals allegedly parading himself as “President General,” revealing that he had previously faced arrest and prosecution over alleged involvement in illegal oil operations. The group described his sudden advocacy for restructuring the region’s security framework as suspicious and self-serving.

IRG warned that attempts to discredit ongoing security reforms could reverse the progress achieved in curbing oil theft, increasing crude oil production and restoring confidence among host communities.

The group therefore urged President Tinubu and national security authorities to disregard the purported letter and instead rely on verified performance records, intelligence assessments and feedback from host communities that have benefitted from the improved security framework.

Reaffirming its commitment to peace, development and responsible advocacy, the Isoko Renaissance Group maintained that it remains focused on constructive engagement and will not allow its identity to be hijacked for actions capable of destabilising the region.
