Oghojafor Charges DOU Matriculants to Uphold Discipline, Good Conduct ~ Truth Reporters

The Vice-Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University (DOU), Asaba, Professor Ben Akpoyomare Oghojafor, has charged the 5,835 students matriculating for the 2025/2026 academic session to exhibit a high sense of discipline, decorum and good comportment throughout their stay in the institution.

Professor Oghojafor warned that the university would not hesitate to apply appropriate sanctions against any student found engaging in drug abuse, cultism, hooliganism, alcoholism, gambling, prostitution or other anti-social vices, stressing that offenders would face the full weight of the law.

The Vice-Chancellor gave the charge during the matriculation ceremony held on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the university’s 1,000-capacity hall. 

He noted that while the university management remains committed to providing a conducive and secure learning environment, students must, in return, remain focused on their academic pursuits, dress decently and conduct themselves in a disciplined manner.

While congratulating the newly admitted students “who have been found qualified to be admitted into our citadel of learning,” Professor Oghojafor reminded them that the matriculation ceremony formally confers on them the status of bona fide students of the university. 

He explained that their names would henceforth move from being written in pencil and chalk to ink and pen, symbolising their full integration into the university community.

The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that DOU has continued to reposition education and transform academic delivery through the introduction of smart, innovative and cutting-edge programmes that are not commonly available in many other universities.

He listed some of the programmes to include Actuarial Science, Data Science, Cyber Security, Marine Science, Aviation Management, Transport Management, Peace and Conflict Resolution, Software Engineering, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Health Care Administration and Hospital Management, Law, Anatomy, among others. 

According to him, these programmes are designed to adequately prepare students for the demands of the future.

Professor Oghojafor used the occasion to express gratitude to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his unwavering commitment to educational development in the state and to Dennis Osadebay University in particular. 

He also commended the Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Nyerhovwo Tonukari, as well as members of staff of the institution, for their dedication to the growth and progress of the university.

The high point of the ceremony was the administration of the matriculation oath on the 5,835 students by the Registrar of the university, Mrs. Isioma Genevieve Obadan, after which the Vice-Chancellor formally declared them fully admitted and recognised as bona fide students of Dennis Osadebay University.

Dignitaries present at the ceremony included the University Librarian, Dr. Nelson Edewor; Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Lucky Enakirerhi; Deans of the Faculties of Agriculture, Arts, Allied Medical Sciences, Computing, Environmental Sciences, Law, Management Sciences and Science; Director of Quality Assurance and Chairman of the Admission Board, Dr. Patrick Edema; Deputy Registrar (Academic Affairs), Mrs. Patience Avwero; Assistant Coordinator, Students’ Affairs; Students’ Affairs Officer; and officials of the Students’ Union Government, among others.
