We've zero tolerance for drug abuse, cultism, exam malpractices in DOU, VC, Prof Oghojafor warns students ~ Truth Reporters

The Vice Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University, (DOU), Asaba, Professor Ben Oghojafor, has stated the institution's resolve under his watch, to have zero tolerance for drug abuse, cultism and examination malpractices.

According to the Vice Chancellor, stringent measures such as outright expulsion , await any student found wanting in the aforementioned areas of negative vices, including indecent dressing.

These tersely worded statements, formed part of the Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba , Voice Chancellor,s remarks, at the inauguration of the pioneer Students Union Government (SUG), of the institution, at the 250 lecture theatre complex, on Friday 20th February, 2025.

According to Professor Oghojafor, the  newly inaugurated Students union government, the pioneer , have been elected by the entire students in a position of trust, such that accountability and transparency should be their watchword.

The DOU Vice Chancellor admonished the newly inaugurated Students union body to work collectively like a team and united family, bearing in mind the biblical virtues of the ant which , collectively, gathers its necessities on and off season.

Professor Oghojafor while admonishing the newly inaugurated Students executives, said,"The worst lie you can tell is to deceive yourself. The reason is that when you lie, you will need another lie to cover up the first lie and continue to lie subsequently to cover the corresponding falsehoods. 

"I therefore admonish you all as elected representatives of the students union government, the first ever, to be transparent always in your dealings with those that voted for you to lead them. Power is transient, so always remember that."

Earlier, the Acting Dean of Students Affairs of the institution, Dr Lucky Enakirheri, in his welcome address, introduced the elected leaders of the Students Union Government ( SUG) of the institution, to the Vice Chancellor and academic community.

The high point of the event was the administration of the oaths of office and allegiance by Ehieario Catherine, Esquire, in line with Part 1 of the 5th schedule of the 1999 constitution ( as amended), and Sections 207 and 208 of the Evidence Act , for oath and affirmation.

In her inaugural address and vote of thanks on behalf of the newly inaugurated SUG exco, the pioneer and first female President, Comrade lfechukwude Joan Ukwuamedua, described the event as not only historic, but also a collective proof that students of Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, have a voice.

The pioneer DOU Students Union Government President said:" To my dear fellow students, l trust your belief is a shared vision. This administration belongs to you , and together, we will lay a solid foundation for future generations. Let me assure you that my administration will be people oriented, democratic and projects based. Your voice will be heard and your concerns will be addressed in the most pragmatic and modern way. Soon, you will begin to reap the benefits of students unionism" 

The historic event was witnessed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor ( DVC) Administration, Professor Christopher Chukwudi, DVC Academics, Prof Robert Dode, Registrar, Mrs Genevieve Obadan ( represented by. the Dep Registrar Human Resources, Mrs Bimbo Emudianughe, Bursar Mr Emmanuel Okolo, Librarian, Dr Nelson Edewor, Deans of faculties, Directors of programmes, members of staff and the students community, among others.
