Build on Educational Roots for Our Children, IGSOSA President Urges Old Students ~ Truth Reporters

 

The President of Iluelogbo Grammar School Old Students Association (IGSOSA), Engr. David Owhairoruo Adidi, has urged old students of the institution to sustain their support for their alma mater, saying such interventions would preserve the educational foundation that shaped them for the benefit of future generations.

Adidi made the call on Saturday while addressing the 2025/2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association held at Owhelogbo, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.

He urged members to remain committed to the development of the school, stressing that their contributions would serve as a lasting legacy for their children and generations yet unborn.

Giving an account of his executive committee’s stewardship since its inauguration on July 12, 2025, following elections held on June 28, 2025, Adidi said the administration inherited several challenges, including acute shortage of teachers in core subjects, poor attitude to duty, internal divisions and a leadership vacuum occasioned by the ill-health of the then principal.

He said the executive immediately engaged relevant stakeholders and, through sustained advocacy, secured the posting of four teachers in core subjects and the appointment of a new substantive principal, while the former principal was transferred on health grounds.

According to him, the association also recorded significant interventions in the school’s infrastructure, water supply, power and student development.

“With the cooperation of well-meaning teachers, issues of indiscipline were addressed and peace restored. We thank all those who mediated during disagreements on our platform,” he said.

Adidi disclosed that, with the support of Chief Mathias Otobo, the school premises and sports field were cleared and placed under regular maintenance.

He also acknowledged the initial water intervention by Deaconess Vivian Edoghogho Okpobrisi, noting that the pump was subsequently overhauled.

He commended Engr. Monday Akporuno for donating a solar-powered water project to the school as part of his contribution to the development of the alma mater.

On electricity, the IGSOSA president said the executive replaced the school’s solar inverter after it was damaged by a lightning strike at the Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre.

He, however, said the power system still required proper earthing, installation of a lightning arrestor and replacement of batteries to restore full functionality.

Adidi further disclosed that, under the new principal, the school successfully organised its Annual Inter-House Sports Competition after several years, while its students emerged first in a debate competition sponsored by Gen. Anthony Okpobrisi (rtd).

He said the executive was also engaging the Ministry of Secondary Education on further interventions, including classroom renovations and repairs to failed sections of the school’s perimeter fence.

Adidi expressed appreciation to individuals and organisations that supported the executive committee throughout the year, saying their contributions had helped to advance the association’s intervention programmes.

A major highlight of the AGM was the announcement of scholarship and reward initiatives for outstanding students in various subjects.

The beneficiaries and sponsors include Jonah Omamode Omowhovivie, 200 bags of students’ uniforms; Morrison Iluesure, 100 bags of students’ uniforms; Michael Emamuzou Ahworeno, 100 bags of students’ uniforms and N50,000 for the best Chemistry student.

Simon Enajedu will sponsor N50,000 each for the best Biology and English students in the mock examination, while Engr. Dr. Lucky Omidi will provide a set of Geography textbooks and N20,000 for the best Geography student from SS2 to SS3.

Engr. Gabriel Oloroh will reward the best Mathematics and Physics students in SS3 with N50,000 each, while Orife Jonathan will give N200,000 to the overall best student from SS2 to SS3.

Adidi will sponsor N50,000 each for the second-best students in Mathematics and Physics in the graduating class based on their mock examination performance.

Umukoro Jonathan (JP) will reward the 10 best students in Accounting with N20,000 each, while Deaconess Vivian Okpobrisi will give N30,000 each to the three best students in Government and Literature-in-English.

Comrade Patrick Adaighofua will reward the best English Language student with N30,000 and the best Literature-in-English student with N20,000.

The IGSOSA president said the various initiatives underscored the association’s commitment to improving academic performance and creating opportunities for students of the institution.
