Ika South LG Boss, Ehiwarior, Flags Off Measles Immunisation Exercise ~ Truth Reporters
The Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, Friday, at Ekuku Agbor, flagged off the 2024 Integrated Measles Vaccination Campaign for the local government area.
The exercise, which took place at Ekuku Agbor Primary Health Centre, was witnessed by community leaders, elders and a cross segment of the community, including women who brought their children for immunization.
In a brief address at the event, Engr. Ehiwarior stressed the importance of the exercise, which, he noted, was for children within the age bracket of 9 months and 5 years, to be vaccinated against the deadly disease of Measles.
He pointed out that the exercise was necessary to safeguard the lives of children.
He called for the cooperation of all stakeholders, particularly parents and health workers, to ensure that the exercise went seamlessly and every child captured within the age range was immunized.
The Local Government boss reiterated his administration's commitment to effective primary healthcare delivery to the people of Ika South, and urged those in charge of Primary Healthcare Centres across the local government area to be dutiful in carrying out their assignment.
While pleading with parents and guardians to avail themselves of the opportunity offered by the exercise to have their children vaccinated, the chairman appealed to community leaders to supervise it with health workers to ensure the success of the exercise.
"I urge our mothers to take their children within the said age bracket to the nearest Primary Healthcare facility or designated vaccination points for innoculation against Measles," he pleaded.
The vaccination exercise is to run through Saturday, October 12 and Friday, October 18, 2024.
