Tambuwal assures Deborah's family of justice ~ Truth Reporters

Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, on Friday, assured that there would be justice for the family of Deborah Samuel who was lynched in the state for alleged blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed. 

Deborah whose body was cremated by irate Moslem mob after she was lynched, was until the unfortunate incident, a 200 level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto.

Tambuwal who was speaking in an interview with journalists shortly after his meeting with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) delegates at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, said the incident was quite unfortunate. 

According to the governor, nobody has right to take laws into his or her hands, adding that some suspects who were apprehended by the police have been charged to court for their alleged involvement in the gruesome murder of Deborah. 

He debunked the rumour that there was no attempt to save Deborah from the mob attack, adding that some DSS personnel actually got to the school on time where they initially rescued the deceased and took her to safety until the mob overpowered the DSS officials. 

"The security agencies particularly, the DSS were able to get to the school on time and they were actually able to get our sister, Deborah rescued from the hands of the mob initially and as they were mobilising forces from the military barack and the police command, the mob was growing.

"As we speak, one of the DSS personnel that really attempted to save her is in hospital receiving treatment because he had a broken head and the other one had a broken hand. 

"So, they were actually overpowered. It is not as it she was left alone, there was rescue attempt by the DSS and they were where she was locked for safety but the mob overpowered them.

"It was not that the security agencies didn't respond, may be they didn't respond adequately but there was a response," Tambuwal who is a Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant said.

He added that such ugly incident had never happened before in Sokoto State, pointing out that Sokoto has been a very peaceful state in the country. 

"Sokoto is one state where the state government which l preside over, pay the school fees and give school materials to every student of Nigeria that is schooling in our public schools without discrimination. 

"So, we don't discriminate against our brothers who are from other parts of the country and we live peacefully. 

"Normalcy has returned to Sokoto and the matter is in court and it is being tried and l can assure you that by the special grace of God, there will be justice in that matter," he said.
