Isoko lobbies Itsekiri for Delta South seat ~ Truth Reporters

...Says All Political Equations Favors The Isokos - Prof. Chris Akpotu.

The President General of Isoko Development Union (IDU), Professor Chris Akpotu, today being Thursday February, 24, 2022, led a powerful lobby team to meet with the Itsekiri ethnic nationality in Warri.

Recall that, the first visit was made on the 6th of February, where the Isoko nationality played host to the Itsekiri delegation at the Unity House, IDU Secretariat, Oleh, and that was formal introduction of a critical discourse, with reference to the Senatorial seats that belongs to Delta South Senatorial district (Ijaws, Isokos and Itsekiris).

This "return match" within a fortnight and four days by the IDU lobby team was to exhaustively calibrate the issues of common interest with a view to making decisive political progress.

In furtherance of the already formulated political agenda, the leader of the Itsekiri delegation, Chief Brown Mene, said, the purpose of the meeting was to collaborate with one another so that we can form a strong veritable alliance to make our people happy. Continuing, he said, by divine arrangement, the 3 "i's" videlicet; Ijaws, Isokos and Itsekiris, share together Delta South Senatorial seat and because Isokos have close relationship with the Itsekiris, there is urgent need to garner partnership and support from our brothers, Chief Mene concluded.

Once upon a time, the elders and/or leaders of thoughts from the tripod ethnic groups, ab initio met and painstakingly laid a foundation for the "Senatorial arrangement," which is why, Hon. Justice Chief Franklin Atake, took the first shot from the Itsekiris. Thereafter, E.K. Clark, from the Ijaw, then followed by Sen. Spanner Okpozo, from the Isoko. It was as a result of the political progress that, Chief (Mrs) Stella Omu, later came in to continue the arrangement after the military era in 1999, (the advent of the new democratic dispensation), then Senator James Manager (Ijaw), the incumbent occupier. Chief Mene argued that, since we are in another transitional period, it will be good we continue in that rotational trajectory, hence this reawakening.

In response to the nearly impossible agitation made by the Itsekiris, the erudite Professor and PG of IDU, Chris Akpotu clearly states that, the Senatorial vision of the Isoko nationality was midwifed at the Annual General Conference held 27th of December, 2021. We have discreetly articulated some political history in some form of arrangement relating to how the joint office can be shared among the 3 'i's. Going down memory lane, you would agree with me that, Isoko tasted the Senatorial office only once by Chief Stella Omu, and that Sen. Spanner Okpozo slot you repeatedly harped on was short changed by the military in less than 90 days in office.

The number 1 citizen of Isoko Nation, Prof. Chris, reiterated that within the 20years of the incumbent Senator, the Isokos has been patient and had always demonstrated some level of Political benevolence, which is why, we have given adequate support to either the Ijaws or Itsekiris, at every transitional period. This sense of affinity should be graciously considered and rewarded.

It is worthy of note that, when an Itsekiri man Dr. Uduaghan Emmanuel indicated to run for the seat of governorship, an Isoko man, by name Chief James Obeuwou, equally indicated and bought form too. He was prevailed upon to decline and Isoko massively gave support to Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, a juicy office he occupied for eight uninterrupted years.

In a nutshell, the Ijaws had currently the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, eight years running, courtesy of Isoko support. Same Ijaw was a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria - Elder Godday Orubebe, under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. The Itsekiri took the Governorship for eight years, a position higher than 50 Senators put together.

In conclusion, we want to say that, our appeal is not with any political arrogance or political brigandage.

Notwithstanding the fact that, we are committed to the reunion or renewed sense of commitment as a people, we must consider all political equations, putting all elements in right perspectives for us to move forward. Therefore, the Itsekiris clamouring for the Senatorial seat, without recourse to the Isoko people is unfair, thereby promoting "political fallowness." Let fairplay, good conscience and love becloud our sense of judgement with a view to building a new foundation and renewing every modality for the sake of children yet unborn, Prof. Chris concluded.
