UYLA faults bill seeking inclusion of new oil producing states in NDDC ~ Truth Reporters

The Urhobo Youth Leaders' Association, UYLA has condemned the bill at the Senate seeking to amend the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Act 2000 for the inclusion of new oil producing states.

In a statement signed by UYLA's President, Anthony Onoriode Ofoni and Secretary, Austin Ogheneovo Atiti described the bill sponsored by Sen. Solomon Olamilekan of the All Progressives Party, APC, Lagos West as anti-Niger Delta and ploy to shortchange the region of the much needed development.

UYLA called on the Senate Committee on Niger Delta to reject the bill, so that Nigeria will continue to enjoy the relative peace in the region. The Association informed that the NDDC was not just created by the Olusegun Obasanjo's administration because oil was found in the region but as a result of the long abandonment of the place, devastated by the activities of the multinational companies.

UYLA further advised Sen. Olamilekan to sponsor another bill for the creation of a Commission in the new oil producing regions and stay away from the NDDC.
