The Senior Political Adviser to the Governor Rt Hon. Solomon Funkekeme, has identified political parties as agents of development and partners in progress in the administration of a society.

Rt Hon. Funkekeme stated this recently in Asaba when he met with members of Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Delta State Chapter.

He said that political parties were meant to propagate ideas and struggle for control of power to evenly distribute the wealth and resources of a given society, emphasising that leadership of political parties must therefore take their task seriously.

The senior political adviser said that the state government was desirous to institute a robust relationship between the ruling People's Democratic Party, PDP, and other political parties in the State.

He urged Inter - Party officers and IPAC to work together in order to ensure harmony, efficiency and standardization in the administration of political parties.

According to Rt Hon Funkekeme, the meeting with the members of (IPAC) in the state had become necessary to determine existing registered and functional political parties in the state.

He disclosed that the state government would soon carry out periodic verification exercise of operational offices of existing political parties.

It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, recently de-registered 74 political parties across the nation leaving only 18 registered ones, a development which saw some Exco members whose party were de-registered losing their support base in the state exco.

Following from this, the National President of IPAC desolved the state exco with a marching order to set up a 7-man care-taker committee within 14 days to oversee the operation of the parties in the state.

In their respective responses, Comrades Lucky Okorakpo and David Ashikodi, Executive Assistants (EA) to the Governor on Inter-Party relations, applauded the Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for incorporating other political parties in the administration of the State.
