DOU, Brazil Alumni Association Seal Pact on Academic Collaboration ~ Truth Reporters

Dennis Osadebay University (DOU), Asaba, Delta State, has entered into a partnership with the Brazil Alumni Association in Nigeria (BAAN) to strengthen academic exchange, research, scholarships and foreign language education.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), according to the parties, is aimed at widening opportunities for students and researchers while promoting knowledge transfer, cultural engagement and technology development between Nigeria and Brazil.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of DOU, Prof. Samuel Aghalino, described the agreement as a major step in the university’s efforts to internationalise its programmes and deepen its engagement with institutions and organisations beyond Nigeria.

Aghalino said the collaboration would expose students to additional skills and international experience, thereby enhancing their competitiveness in the labour market.

He said the partnership would facilitate opportunities in research, student and staff exchange, scholarships, computing, medical sciences, technology transfer and other academic programmes.

According to him, the agreement would be driven by cooperation and knowledge sharing, with DOU seeking to expose its students and researchers to global opportunities while adapting relevant international knowledge and innovations to local challenges.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that international partnerships had become increasingly important to the growth of modern universities, particularly as institutions of higher learning were required to collaborate across national boundaries in research, technology and knowledge production.

The National President of BAAN, Chief Dr Francis Utomi, said the partnership would create valuable opportunities for students, researchers and other members of the university community.

Utomi expressed optimism that the initiative would strengthen academic and professional ties between Nigeria and Brazil, while enabling the university community to benefit from international expertise and collaboration.

Also speaking, Mr Adeniran Arimoro, who represented the Consul General of the Brazilian Embassy in Nigeria, stressed the importance of deepening educational, cultural and professional relations between the two countries.

Arimoro said education remained a veritable platform for building stronger relationships between Nigeria and Brazil, adding that increased academic collaboration could promote mutual understanding and professional exchanges.

A major feature of the agreement is the establishment of a foreign language learning centre by BAAN under the Faculty of Arts of DOU.

The centre, the parties said, would strengthen foreign language education and provide students with language skills capable of widening their academic, professional and cultural exposure.

The university said the partnership would further enhance its international outlook and expand opportunities for students and staff in academic exchange, research, scholarships, language education, cultural engagement and knowledge transfer.
