Warri Ijaws Endorse INEC Delineation, Reject Claims of Exclusion from Warri South ~ Truth Reporters

 

The Ijaw people of Warri South Local Government Area have thrown their weight behind the final report of the Supreme Court-ordered delineation exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as a fair reflection of demographic realities and a step towards correcting years of political imbalance. 

Addressing journalists in Ogbe-Ijoh, Warri, Ijaw leaders said the report released by INEC on May 20, 2026, validated the electoral relevance and historical presence of Ijaw communities in Warri South. 

The leaders, including Hon. Denbo-Denbofa Oweikpodor, Chief M. Keme and Comrade Moses Fiyebor, stated that allegations suggesting Ogbe-Ijoh Ijaws are not part of Warri South Local Government Area were misleading and contrary to historical records. 

They argued that previous electoral arrangements weakened Ijaw political representation by splitting their communities across multiple wards, noting that the new delineation exercise was designed to address those concerns. 

The group also welcomed INEC’s decision to place Ijaw electoral wards and registration areas into Warri South Constituency II of the Delta State House of Assembly, saying the move aligned with the aspirations of the people. 

They further called for additional electoral wards and a dedicated state constituency to strengthen political representation for Ijaw communities in Warri South.
