Prof. Tonukari Defends 2026 Education Budget Before Delta Assembly ~ Truth Reporters

 

 

Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, on Tuesday led a delegation of senior officials to defend the ministry’s 2026 budget proposal before the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Education.

 

The Commissioner, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Bridget Odobor, and a Director in the ministry, presented the financial estimates and outlined priority areas aimed at strengthening the state’s tertiary education system.

 

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Charles Emetulu, alongside the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Benson Obire, received the delegation and commended the ministry for its diligence in preparing the proposal. 

The lawmakers also offered guidance on improving budget implementation in the coming fiscal year.

 

Other members of the committee present were Hon. Ferguson Onwo, Hon. Marylyn Okowa Daramola, Hon. Matthew Omonade, Hon. Mrs. Bridget Anyafulu, and Hon. Emmanuel Amatare Sinebe.

 

In his remarks, Prof. Tonukari expressed deep appreciation to the committee for its consistent support and constructive engagement. 

He also thanked Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as the administration’s unwavering commitment to advancing higher education in the state.

 

“I’m grateful to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his steadfast support to the Ministry,” he said. 

He noted that the 2026 proposal aligns with the state government’s broader agenda of improving the quality, infrastructure and overall competitiveness of tertiary institutions in Delta.

 

Prof. Tonukari assured the lawmakers of the ministry’s readiness to implement policies and programmes that will drive sustainable growth across the higher education sector, asserting that the coming year would consolidate ongoing reforms and investments.

 

The session ended with the committee pledging continued collaboration with the ministry to ensure effective delivery of educational goals for the state.
