Izagbo Mourns Nwaoboshi, Describes Death as Personal Loss ~ Truth Reporters

 

The immediate past President-General Worldwide of the Ibusa Community Development Union (ICDU) and current Executive Director, Planning and Design, Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA), Chief (Dr.) Austin Nonyelim Izagbo, Ide Ibusa, has expressed shock over the passing of former Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, describing the loss as deeply personal.

Chief Izagbo, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former commissioner, described the late senator, who represented Delta North Senatorial District, as a brother, friend and political ally.

In a condolence message made available to the media, Izagbo recalled his over four-decade-long personal, communal and political relationship with the deceased. 

He said the bond dated back to the early 1990s when he served as Delta State Chairman of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC), during which period he crossed paths with Nwaoboshi, who later emerged as the pioneer Delta State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Grassroots Democratic Movement (GDM) coalition and subsequently became the party’s state chairman.

According to the Executive Director of Planning and Design at BORBDA, Nwaoboshi was an illustrious son of Ibusa and arguably the most visible political figure from the town after the demise of late Senator Nosike Ikpo. 

He noted that both men shared similar ideologies rooted in people-centred and democratic-driven politics.

“I received the devastating news of the passage of my brother, friend and political associate of over four decades, Distinguished Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi, with a deep sense of personal loss,” Izagbo said. 

“Ibusa, Anioma nation and indeed Delta State have lost a rare gem—a personality who believed in standing firm by his convictions and conscience. Nwaoboshi’s distinguished political and public service career, as well as his contributions to community development, are legendary and marked by landmark achievements.”

Describing the late senator as the arrowhead who championed the agitation for the rotation of the governorship to Delta North during the 2015 election cycle, Izagbo said Nwaoboshi’s resilience, steadfastness and unwavering commitment to fairness and equity in the political space remain indelible legacies worthy of appreciation by all lovers of democracy.

He further noted that Nwaoboshi’s tenure in the Senate, particularly as Chairman of the Committee on Niger Delta, was impactful, with tangible projects, empowerment initiatives and skill acquisition programmes across Delta North Senatorial District.

While praying for the repose of the late senator’s soul, Chief Izagbo urged the Delta State Government to sustain and immortalise Nwaoboshi’s legacy in recognition of his immense contributions to the state and the nation.
