How Senator Peter Nwaoboshi Immortalised His Name in Otolokpo ~ Truth Reporters

Residents of Otolokpo community in Delta State have continued to recount with deep gratitude how the late Distinguished Senator Peter Onyelukachi Nwaoboshi etched his name permanently in the history of the town through the construction of what is today known as College Road, Otolokpo.

 

The story dates back to 2018, when a close associate of the senator, Mr. Leo Nkeaka, contacted EA Uzumnism, Esq., then Director of Media during Senator Nwaoboshi’s campaign, inviting him to meet the lawmaker at his Asaba residence.

 

According to Uzumnism, the meeting, which took place at the senator’s residence behind Edith Supermarket, was initially meant to appreciate his loyalty and dedication during the campaign. Senator Nwaoboshi, he said, commended his discipline and hard work and offered him the keys to a brand-new car as a personal reward.

 

However, in a rare display of selflessness, Uzumnism declined the gift, insisting that what he truly desired was not a personal benefit but development for his people.

 

“I told him plainly that I did not need a car, but that Otolokpo needed roads,” Uzumnism recalled. “At that time, Otolokpo had no single internal road. The community was in pain.”

 

Although Senator Nwaoboshi initially expressed reservations about undertaking the road project at the time, Uzumnism said he stood his ground, turning down repeated calls and insisting that it was “road for Otolokpo or nothing.”

 

Two months later, the breakthrough came. A call from Mr. Nelson Agbamuche confirmed that the senator had approved the road project. With further confirmation from the then Delta North PDP Chairman, Mr. Moses Idu, the project was set in motion.

 

Through the combined efforts of Senator Nwaoboshi, Mr. Moses Idu, and Mr. Hillary Ibegbulem, the road project was successfully executed, giving birth to what is today known as College Road, Otolokpo. Years after its completion, the road remains intact and continues to serve the community.

 

Uzumnism described the project as a defining legacy of the late senator, noting that the road not only opened up the town but also restored hope and dignity to the people.

 

“Senator Peter Nwaoboshi did not just build a road; he gave Otolokpo a lasting symbol of leadership and compassion,” he said.

 

As the community mourns the passing of the former senator, many residents say his name will forever be remembered in Otolokpo for choosing development over personal reward and for responding to the genuine needs of the people.
