Asagba of Asaba Tees Off Maiden IGCC Tourney, Accepts Patronship, Donates N5m ~ Truth Reporters

 

The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, on Saturday officially teed off the maiden edition of the Prof. Epiphany Azinge (Asagba of Asaba) Golf Tournament at the Ibori Golf and Country Club (IGCC), Asaba, adding a new chapter to the sporting and social landscape of the Delta State capital.

The well-attended event also featured the formal decoration of the revered monarch as Patron of the Ibori Golf and Country Club, following his acceptance of the appointment extended to him by the club’s leadership.

Addressing guests and participants, Prof. Azinge expressed gratitude to the Club Captain, Hon. Chief Patrick Ukah, members of the Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees for the honour. He applauded the organisers for the seamless conduct of the tournament and commended the golfers for their passion, discipline and sportsmanship.

The Asagba personally presented prizes to the winner, first runner-up and second runner-up, congratulating them for their outstanding performances.

Speaking on the historical journey of Asaba, the monarch highlighted the city’s transformation from its early beginnings through the Royal Niger Company era to its emergence as the capital of Delta State in 1991. He noted that Asaba has continued to grow into a major hub for tourism, hospitality and socio-economic activities.

Describing the Ibori Golf and Country Club as a valuable asset to Asaba Kingdom, Prof. Azinge called on traditional title holders, political leaders and sons and daughters of Asaba to support the club by taking up membership and participating actively in its activities. 

He also expressed satisfaction with the condition of the golf course and urged the management to sustain high standards of maintenance.

In a show of commitment to the development of the club, the Asagba flagged off the proposed Cart Shade Project with a donation of ₦5 million. Also contributing to the project, Obi Onyemanaogeme Ajufoh and Hon. Engr. Kennedy Okafor donated ₦500,000 each, while other members made additional financial pledges.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Captain of IGCC, Hon. Chief Patrick Ukah, thanked the Asagba for honouring the club with his presence and for accepting to serve as Patron. 

He formally decorated the monarch alongside members of the Board of Trustees, describing his patronage as a significant boost to the club’s vision and future growth.

The maiden tournament drew a distinguished audience of traditional rulers, political leaders, golfers and guests from within and outside Delta State.
