World Teachers’ Day: Education Remains Central Pillar of Our MORE Agenda — Oborevwori Assures Teachers ~ Truth Reporters

As the Delta State Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers joins the rest of the world to mark the 2025 edition of the World Teachers Day, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has assured teachers and indeed stakeholders , that education remains a central pillar to his administration,s MORE agenda .

To demonstrate his administration,s acknowledgement of the critical role of education, the Governor stated that , among others, uninterrupted prompt payment of salaries and allowances of teachers at all levels have been maintained, investment in teacher training and retraining , equipping educators with modern teaching skills, digital literacy , and collaborative methods .

Governor Oborevwori , represented by the Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, noted that the theme for this year,s celebration, "Recasting Teaching As A Collaborative Profession", is both timely and compelling , lamenting that for too long, teaching has been seen as an individual effort of one teacher , one classroom , and one lesson plan, in total contrast to today,s interconnected world , where the strenght of education lies in team work, peer learning , mentorship , and collaboration across disciplines and institutions .

Noting that every society rests on the foundation laid by its teachers, the Governor assured that his vision is not only to build classrooms, but to foster a culture of collaboration , where teaching becomes a networked profession where best practices are shared , and where innovation thrives .

He therefore urged teachers in the state to embrace this new era of collaboration by sharing their knowledge with each other , mentoring younger teachers and building communities of practice where no teacher feels isolated in their classroom struggles .

In his speech , the National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers ( NUT), Comrade Audu Titus Amba , called for more funding of the education sector by governments across board

Amba urged the government of the day to not only recruit more teachers, but also invest more resources in providing infrastructure and improve the morale of teachers through various incentives

In his welcome address , State NUT Chairman, Comrade Dickson Poubeni, commended Governor Oborevwori for his teacher friendly disposition and provision of related infrastructure for public schools in the state

Highpoints of this year's World Teachers day which featured goodwill messages from the Commissioner for Secondary Education , Mrs Rose Ezewu, her Technical Education counterpart , Hon Smart Ijeoma Ufoh, Chairman House Committee on Education, Hon Charles Emetulu , representatives of the NLC , TRCN and NULGE, included cultural dance from the three Senatorial districts of the state and March past by the twenty five local government NUT branches , which was won by Patani local government branch of the union .
