Radar Magazine Honours Ehiwarior, Nine Other LG Chairmen For Impressive Performance ~ Truth Reporters






The Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, alongside nine of his colleagues,  on Wednesday, received an award of excellence in recognition and appreciation of his sterling performance in infrastructural development of the  Local Government Area.


The presentation of the merit award which took place at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ House, in Asaba, attracted dignitaries from different walks of life.


In a speech he presented the Publisher/CEO, Nigeria Radar Magazine, Mr. Tony Okwunebe, disclosed that the event was designed to honour and appreciate 10 Local Government Chairmen in Delta State whose performances had been outstanding.


The Award ceremony, according to Mr. Okwunebe, " aims to recognize and celebrate exceptional achievements in leadership and public service, spotlighting chairmen who have demonstrated accountability, innovation and commitment to the welfare of their people since assumption of office."


He disclosed that the selection was made after a careful and independent assessment of the local government chairmen's performance and its direct impact on the grassroots development, adding that, " the assessment aligned with the MORE Agenda of the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, which promotes Meaningful Development, Opportunity for All, Realistic Reforms and Enhanced Peace and Security."


He noted that each of the awardees had recorded significant progress in such areas as infrastructure development, education, youth empowerment, health, agriculture and community engagement, thereby advancing the growth of their respective local government areas.


"This initiative, is therefore, a celebration of dedication, vision and excellence in local governance.


"We are here to celebrate the champions of grassroots administration who have truly made a difference in the lives of the people. We are hoping that this recognition will also serve as an inspiration to other Council chairmen across the State to remain steadfast in delivering good governance to their people," he stated.


In a brief keynote address, Dr. Fred Latimore, Director- General, Delta State Orientation and Communication Bureau, who spoke on the theme, "Local Government Good Governance, An Important Factor In Eradicating Poverty And Promoting Development," praised the awardees for upscaling grassroots governance, and urged other chairmen to take cue from their colleagues to do better.


He admonished Local Government Chairmen to always invest in projects that drive economic growth and development.


Receiving the award, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Jonathan Onwuka, thanked the organisers for the recognition and award.


He assured of his unwavering commitment to doing MORE for the people of Ika South Local Government Area.
