Ndokwa Neku Union Executives Visit Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, Push for Urgent Developmental Action ~ Truth Reporters

The Executives of the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), the foremost socio-cultural body representing the Ndokwa ethnic nationality, on Wednesday, paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, Member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, at his office in the National Assembly, Abuja.

 

The high-powered delegation used the visit to highlight a number of pressing developmental challenges confronting the Ndokwa Nation. Key among the issues raised were the need for a review of the DESOPADEC oil quantum, the minimal presence of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) projects across Ndokwa communities, and the protracted absence of electricity in several areas of the constituency.

 

The NNU Executives also emphasized the urgency of a direct engagement with the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, to ensure the swift completion of ongoing power projects, particularly the stalled Okpai Independent Power Plant (IPP) Phase 2 and its associated transmission infrastructure.

 

In his response, Hon. Ezechi expressed deep appreciation for the visit, describing it as timely and reflective of the Union’s commitment to the progress of the Ndokwa people. He lauded the NNU leadership for their proactive engagement, which he said embodies unity, purpose, and visionary leadership.

 

Reassuring the delegation, Hon. Ezechi reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to championing the development of the Ndokwa region. He disclosed ongoing engagements with the Delta State Governor on the longstanding DESOPADEC oil quantum issue, noting that intensified efforts are underway to resolve the matter.

 

On the NDDC front, Hon. Ezechi revealed that he has continued to push for the inclusion of Ndokwa in the Commission’s project implementation plans through his role in the House Committee on NDDC. He expressed confidence that with Mr. Chiedu Ebie at the helm as Chairman of the NDDC Board, greater attention will be given to the needs of the Ndokwa Nation.

 

Turning to the power sector, the lawmaker stated that there has been renewed momentum around critical projects such as the Okpai IPP Phase 2 and the 132KV double circuit transmission lines with substations in Okpai and Kwale. He attributed this progress to ongoing consultations with the Ministry of Power and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), and expressed optimism that work will soon resume in earnest.

 

Hon. Ezechi also took the opportunity to congratulate the newly inaugurated NNU Executives, urging them to remain steadfast in promoting unity, peace, and cultural heritage preservation. 

He reiterated his resolve to empower youths and women through skill acquisition programmes and constituency-based empowerment initiatives to ensure inclusive growth and equitable distribution of benefits.

 

The lawmaker further extended his gratitude to the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and former Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, for their continuous support in driving development across Ndokwa land. He also praised the synergy between the Governor and Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, noting that their collaboration has resulted in measurable progress in areas such as infrastructure, education, and power.

 

The visit ended on a high note, with both parties pledging continued collaboration in advancing the socio-economic interests of the Ndokwa people.
