Sen. Dafinone Sponsors 2025 Urhobo Language Competition in Honour of Late Sen. Pius Ewherido ~ Truth Reporters
The Urhobo Studies Association (USA), with the support of the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Sen. Ede Dafinone, has announced the 2025 Urhobo Language Competition in memory of the late Senator Pius Akpor Ewherido.
The initiative, designed to promote and preserve the Urhobo language, will encourage pupils and students to showcase their proficiency in both spoken and written forms.
Open to participants from primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions across Nigeria—particularly within Delta Central—the contest will run in three stages. The first round is scheduled for October 18, 2025, at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka; Urhobo College, Effurun; and Government College, Ughelli. Successful contestants will move on to the second stage on November 8, 2025, at DELSU Abraka, while the grand finale holds on November 22, 2025, also at DELSU Abraka.
Attractive cash prizes await winners across all three categories. Tertiary-level champions will receive ₦700,000, ₦500,000, and ₦300,000 for first, second, and third places respectively. Secondary school winners will take home ₦300,000, ₦200,000, and ₦100,000, while the same applies to the primary school category.
The official award of prizes will be held at Uvwiamuge-Agbarho during the 2025 UPU Day celebrations in the first week of December.
