Tonukari Celebrates Governor Oborevwori's 2-Year Anniversary ~ Truth Reporters

The Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta State, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, has joined the chorus of felicitations pouring in for the state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, as he marks his 2-year anniversary in office. In a statement released to commemorate the occasion, Prof. Tonukari highlighted the governor's numerous achievements in the education sector, particularly in higher education.

According to Prof. Tonukari, Governor Oborevwori's administration has recorded huge milestones, including a 25% reduction in acceptance fees, payment of minimum wage to institutions, and a 25/35% salary increase with three months' arrears. The governor has also provided bursary awards to over 30,000 students, employed 634 academic and non-academic staff, and invested in infrastructural development across various institutions.

The commissioner specifically noted the governor's efforts in establishing and upgrading facilities in several institutions, including the Southern Delta University, Orerokpe, where three faculty buildings have been completed. Additionally, the governor has provided housing for 12 academic staff and the Rector of a polytechnic, as well as hostels for male and female students. Other notable projects include the construction of classrooms , laboratories, a library, and a 500-seat auditorium.

Prof. Tonukari also expressed his appreciation for the governor's commitment to education and his vision for a brighter future for Delta State. He also acknowledged the governor's efforts in promoting sustainable development, e-learning, and alternative funding sources, which have contributed to the accreditation of new programs and the verification of resources in various institutions. With over 90,000 students and 25,000 admissions for the 2024/25 academic session, the future of higher education in Delta State looks promising under Governor Oborevwori's leadership.
