Oborevwori Lauds Delta Poly Rector, Prof. Ufuophu-Biri, on Landmark Projects ~ Truth Reporters

 

 

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, Prof. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, for his outstanding achievements in infrastructural and academic development.

 

The commendation was delivered on Saturday, May 31, 2025, during the institution’s second combined convocation ceremony, which also featured the commissioning of several landmark projects.

 

Represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, the governor praised the Rector for the prudent use of internally generated revenue (IGR) in executing major capital projects. He noted that Prof. Ufuophu-Biri’s administration has had a tangible impact, particularly in improving the welfare of students, staff, and the host community of Oghara.

 

Governor Oborevwori highlighted the Polytechnic’s efficient fund generation and utilization, emphasizing that the institution’s successes align with his administration’s commitment to educational advancement under the MORE Agenda. 

He also reaffirmed the state government’s continued support to ensure the sustainability of the milestones achieved.

 

A major highlight of the event was the commissioning of several signature projects, including a state-of-the-art central administrative block, aptly named the “Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori White House,” an ultra-modern auditorium, and a pure water production factory, all constructed using IGR.

 

Additionally, the governor laid the foundation stone for the new School of Applied Sciences complex and commissioned a fuel-less generator invented by the Polytechnic’s engineering team. 

He described the innovation as a remarkable technological breakthrough and a welcome development for Nigeria’s tech space.

 

In his remarks, a visibly elated Prof. Ufuophu-Biri expressed his deep appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for granting the institution the autonomy to plan and execute projects. 

He also acknowledged the support and leadership of the Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Andrew Orugbo, throughout the process.

 

The Rector congratulated the graduating students, describing the convocation as a solemn and prestigious occasion marking their transition into the professional world. He urged them to uphold the values of the institution and serve as worthy ambassadors of both the Polytechnic and Delta State.

 

According to Prof. Ufuophu-Biri, the remarkable progress recorded by the Polytechnic over the past three years is the result of teamwork and dedication. He credited the collaborative efforts of management and staff for positioning the institution as a model among Nigerian polytechnics.

 

Other members of the academic community, including Deputy Rector Dr. Samuel Ogbogu, Dean of Students Dr. Enudi Samuel, Head of the Department of Social Sciences Dr. Idama Supreme, Bursar Mr. Sunday Omokaro, Registrar Mr. Efedi Chukwuemeke, and Polytechnic Librarian Prof. (Mrs.) Blessing Akporhonor, also lauded the Rector for his unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation.

 

The convocation ceremony featured the presentation of awards to distinguished personalities. Dignitaries in attendance included Mr. Fred Oborevwori Jr., son of the Delta State Governor, members of the State Executive Council, commissioners, industrialists, current and former Polytechnic rectors, vice chancellors, provosts of other institutions, staff, students, and members of the Oghara community.
