Valentine Onojeghuo's Remarks on Abraka-Eku Road Are Misleading, Misguided - Delta PDP ~ Truth Reporters

The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the recent statement by Mr. Valentine Onojeghuo, Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), regarding the Abraka-Eku road, calling it fundamentally misinformed and misleading.

In a response issued by PDP Publicity Secretary Olorogun Sunday Apah, the party addressed what it described as deliberate misinformation and political grandstanding aimed at discrediting the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

“Mr. Onojeghuo’s allegations regarding corruption and infrastructural neglect reflect a fundamental misunderstanding of the responsibilities between state and federal governments,” Apah stated. 

“The Abraka-Eku road is a federal road, under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government—not the Delta State Government. Claims that the state awarded contracts for the road are entirely false.”

Apah emphasized that the state government has no legal authority over contracts concerning federal roads.

“Accusing the Oborevwori-led administration of favoritism in a federally-managed project reveals either a lack of knowledge or a willful attempt to mislead the public.”

The PDP noted that despite these limitations, the Delta State Government has repeatedly stepped in to support infrastructure development—even on federal roads—when it benefits citizens. 

One example is the state’s rehabilitation of the old Umutu-Abraka-Eku road, which demonstrates the governor’s proactive approach to improving transportation across the state.

Addressing Onojeghuo’s insinuations of politically motivated contract awards, the PDP dismissed them as baseless and politically driven. “Serious allegations demand serious evidence,” 

Apah said. “It is irresponsible for a party spokesperson to peddle unverified claims under the guise of accountability.”

Rather than engaging in constructive dialogue, the APC’s approach, according to the PDP, reflects an ongoing pattern of obstruction and blame-shifting. 

“If accountability were truly their goal, they would seek collaborative solutions—not incite public distrust through sensationalism,” the statement continued.

On claims that the governor operates a "party loyalty reward system," the PDP described such language as divisive and unhelpful. 

“Governance should prioritize public interest. Resorting to inflammatory rhetoric only undermines unity and progress.”

The PDP concluded by reaffirming the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and good governance. 

“We urge all political actors to base their criticisms on facts, not fiction. The people of Delta State deserve leadership rooted in truth, cooperation, and shared progress—not political theatrics.”
