Deputy Chief Whip of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon (Chief) Solomon Ighrakpata has hailed the emergence of the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the 2023 general elections.


Speaking in an exclusive interview at Stephen Keshi’s Stadium, Asaba, venue of the Wednesday’s PDP primaries were the Speaker emerged the winner with over 70% votes cast, Hon Ighrakpata said the victory reflects the wide acceptability of Rt Hon Oborevwori by Deltans.


The Deputy Chief Whip who recalled that the Speaker and his team had embarked on state wide consultations with stakeholders, explained that across the 25 local government areas of the state, the feeling was same as the people openly endorsed the candidacy of the Speaker.


Stating that the victory was well deserved, the Uvwie  Lawmaker expressed gratitude to God for His love for Delta State, stressing that Rt Hon Oborevwori has the capacity to sustain the tempo of socio-economic and political growth in the state from where the incumbent Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa will stop in 2023.


Hon Ighrakpata congratulated the Speaker for the well earned victory, maintaining that he was indeed the man of the people with so much wisdom and humility.


The Lawmaker paid glowing tributes to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his undying commitment to a greater Delta State, maintaining that his resolve for credible, free, fair and peaceful party primaries was commendable.


Hon Ighrakpata appreciated the adhoc delegates for making the collective dream of Deltans possible with their block votes for Sheriff, describing the delegates as heroes in the nation’s democracy.


He enjoined the other 13 aspirants to embrace the outcome of the result in good faith and work with the PDP leadership at all levels to deliver the party’s candidate to victory in the general election.


“It was a win win contest. All the 14 aspirants are winners. Our party, PDP won, Deltans won. It was a victory ordained by God and we are all partakers in it. He gave all of us the sound victory. There was no looser. The task ahead should now be our focus. The party primaries has come and gone, my expectation is that all of us come together and deliver all the PDP candidates in the general elections. Ahead is the bigger celebration as victory assured”, Ighrakpata said.
