Nigeria records 226 fresh cases of COVID-19, total now 6,401 ~ Truth Reporters





Confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nigeria have increased to 6,401 just as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced 226 new cases on Tuesday.

While making the announcement, the public health agency also said COVID-19 deaths have risen to 192 with 1,734 patients discharged from the disease.

“The 226 new cases are reported from 16 states- Lagos (131), Ogun (25), Plateau (15), Edo (11), Kaduna (seven), Oyo (six), FCT (five), Adamawa (five), Jigawa (four), Ebonyi (four), Borno (four), Nasarawa (three), Bauchi (two), Gombe (two), Enugu (one), Bayelsa (one).”

A breakdown of the data obtained from the NCDC’s website showed that of the 192 COVID-19 deaths in Nigeria, 38 were recorded in Lagos, Kano, 36; FCT, nine; Katsina, 13; Borno, 24; Bauchi five; Jigawa, three, Ogun, six; Kaduna, three; Oyo, four; Gombe, two; Sokoto, 13; Edo, six; Zamfara, five; Kwara, one; Rivers, three; Osun, four; Plateau, one; Kebbi, four; Yobe, one; Nasarawa, one; Delta, five; Niger, one; Ondo, one; Ekiti, one, and Akwa Ibom also recorded two deaths.

The data also showed that as of 11.50 pm on May 19, Nigeria has 4,475 active COVID-19 cases while Lagos accounts for 2,755 confirmed infections, 565 recoveries, and 38 deaths.

Kano closely followed with 842 confirmed cases followed by FCT, 427 cases; Katsina, 281; then, Borno with 227 cases.
