Okowa brokers truce between Midwestern Oil, Umusadege community ~ Truth Reporters
Rising from a meeting which lasted for over three hours attended by representatives of the community, Midwestern Oil and Gas both parties commended the State Governor for the restoration of peace.
The Governor who was represented by the Oil and Gas Commissioner, Prince Emmanuel Amgbaduba said the state government was committed to the sustenance of peace across the state with a view to creating an enabling environment for investors.
He appealed to the management of Midwestern Oil and Gas to do everything possible to pacify the community as they were aggrieved by the death of their sons, even as he charged the representatives of the community to be realistic about their demands.
Spoke persons for the Umusadege-Ogbe community, Chief Godwin Onwuse and Chief Dennis Okoh listed the community's demand to include a befitting burial ceremonies for the deceased and scholarships for their children.
Other requests were economic empowerment for the widows of the deceased, employment of two community youth to replace the dead ones and the building of a two bedroom house for the family of the deceased among other demands.
Responding to the demands of the Umusadege-Ogbe community, the Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Midwestern Oil and Gas, Engineer Charles Odita apologized to the community for not being able to attend previous peace meetings attributing it to flight cancellation.
He sympathised with the community over the death of the two youths who worked as security guard to the company and promised on behalf of the company to give three million naira to anyone with useful information that will lead to the arrest of those behind the murder of the youths.
In their remarks, the member representing Ndokwa west constituency in the State House of Assembly, Honourable Charles Emetulu and the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Ifeanyi Egwunyenga appealed to the management of Midwestern Oil and Gas to do everything within its power to meet the demands of the community because of the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of the youths.
The management of Midwestern Oil and Gas are expected to meet with representatives of Umusadege-Ogbe community to brainstorm on a new Memorandum of Understanding, MOU as well as to finalise agreements on the other demands of the community.
