Calibration of Asaba Airport, testimony of Okowa's visionary leadership — Aniagwu

The ongoing calibration of the Asaba International Airport has been described as an eloquent testimony of Governor Okowa's visionary leadership and determination to set Delta State on sound economic footing of the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, made the assertion during an interaction with newsmen after the calibration team made up of officials from Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The team arrived Asaba International Airport to conduct test and calibration of the Airport’s NAVAID systems; Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Very high Frequency (VHF) Omni- Directional Range (VOR), to enhance flight safety and to meet international best practices in the aviation industry.

Mr Aniagwu noted that once the team concluded the exercise, it would means the airport safety had been enhanced, explaining that the issues of flight cancellation due to bad weather and night flight would not be a challenge.

According to the commissioner, it also means that the airport would now provide 24-hour service, which he said would further enhance the economic well-being of the state.

The information commissioner recalled that in 2015, the Asaba International Airport was downgraded by the Federal Aviation Authorities for lack of equipment such as Instrument Landing System ILS, dilapidated and undulating runways and lack of airfield lights for night flights.

He said that the Airport was ready for round-the-clock service and international flights could take place without any fear of cancellation, explaining that the stride underlines the fact that Governor Okowa was irrevocably committed to his “STRONGER DELTA” Agenda.
