The member representing Sapele, Okpe and Uvwie Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Efe Afe has called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgent public importance to reconstruct the failed sections of the Warri-Sapele-Benin Highway.

Hon. Afe decried the sufferings, man hour lost by his constituents and other users of the highway and appealed to the Federal Government through the Federal Road Maintenance Agency FERMA to come reconstruct the sections on the road particularly the deplorable Adeje section.

Hon. Afe was speaking in an interview with newsman at the weekend while on an inspection of the failed portions on the road said heavy traffic caused by the failed portion of the road leads to loss of man hour and productive time.

He expressed dismay that a leading state in oil production like Delta does not deserve such a deplorable road especially as it connects the south-south region to other regions of the country.

The lawmaker asked the Federal Government to direct FERMA as a matter of urgency to reconstruct the road and not to patch it as patching will not last due to heavy tonnage vehicles and high volume of traffic on the road.

According to him, "patching the failed portion of the Warri-Sapele-Benin expressway Road would not help matters as heavy trucks loaded with diesel, fuel and other petroleum products regularly passes through the busy road."

Hon. Afe said the dilapidated road has caused a lot of pains and loses to members of his Constituency as the road traverses his Constituency stressing that economic activities has been affected by the deplorable road.

He noted that presently hoodlums and suspected criminals have taken advantage of the dilapidated road to rob unsuspected Nigerians of their money and goods .

"People travelling from Lagos to Warri and its environs spend more time on the road, motorists spend more money to buy fuel due to the deplorable conditions of the road, federal Government need to intervene to alleviate the sufferings of motorists and commuters"

Hon. Afe thanked the Delta State Government led by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who has severally resurfaced the failed sections of of the Warri-Sapele-Benin expressway as well as his efforts in rehabilitation/reconstruction of other federal roads in the state Ughelli Asaba Road Dualisation Project and also internal roads at the Federal Medical Centre Asaba, and access road to Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters in Asaba.
