Okonta Underscores Import Of Metering Water Consumption ~ Truth Reporters

The Delta State Commissioner for Water Resources Development, Rt Hon. Martins Okonta, has said the metering of water tap standpoints is a strategic approach towards evaluating the quantity of water delivery and usage by consumers.

Hon. Okonta, who stated this in Asaba, during his maiden/familiarization visit to the State Urban Water Board, Rural Water Supply Agency (RUWASA) and the Small Town Water Supply Agency said that through proper metering, the incessant cases of water wastage would be avoided.

According to him, the strategy would also provide sufficient water supply to be able to cater for the domesticated needs of Deltans across the state.

The Commissioner admonished the management of the board and the two agencies to work closely with the relevant officers in the ministry in carrying out sensitization about the ongoing metering policy so as to create awareness.

Okonta, who was accompanied on the visit by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Mrs Felicia Adun, Special Assistant to the commissioner, Mr Eledu Azonim and Directors in the ministry, noted that through the metering initiative, government would be able to generate funds.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Dr Mrs Felicia Adun, called on the Urban Water Board, RUWASA and STOWASA to brace up for income generation through optimum utilization of the facilities at their disposal.

In his remarks, the General Manager of the State Urban Water Board, Mr Nosa Okoh, an engineer, said that the board had erected 79 water facilities in the state, just as his counterpart in RUWASA, Mr  Clement Adiotomre, also an engineer, underscored the importance of metering.

The duo while congratulating the commissioner on his appointment, noted that constant electricity supply would be required, especially in areas where the metering would be established so as to take the exact data concerning the quantity of water usage.
