Delta ANA Extol SDU VC, Awhefeada, Describe Him as Worthy Ambassador ~ Truth Reporters

The Association of Nigeria Authors ( ANA), Delta State Chapter, has described  the Vice Chancellor of the Southern Delta University , Ozoro , Professor Sunny Awhefeada, as "a worthy Ambassador" of the association.

The Association gave the commendation on Thursday 27th August, 2026, when a high powered delegation of the Executive and members, paid the SDU Vice Chancellor , a solidarity visit in his office in Ozoro, lsoko North LGA.

Led by the Chapter's State Chairman and Acting Head of English and Literary Studies , Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Dr Peter Omoko, ANA Delta described Prof Awhefeada as a renowned author, poet and literary scholar , representing the best of Nigerian intellectual tradition, ultimately translating to being a good ambassador of the state chapter of ANA.

While congratulating him on his well deserved appointment as Vice Chancellor , Dr Omoko said apart from being a solidarity visit, it was also in line with ANA Delta's mandate to promote literature , scholarship, and collaborate with institutions of higher learning within the State.

According to Dr Omoko, ANA Delta while seeking to explore areas of partnership in advancing literary and academic development in Delta State, sees the Southern Delta University , Ozoro, as a natural ally in promoting reading culture, research and creative writing , pledging the Chapter's support to the University's programmes.

The Delta ANA Chairman alongside the chapter's Vice Chairman , Professor Boniface Anyanwu, the Head of Department , Theatre Arts , Delta State University, Abraka, in unison appealed to Prof Awhefeada to personally attend the 45th Edition of the lnternational Conference of ANA, coming up at the Mamman Vatsa Writers Village, Mbape , Abuja FCT, between October 31st and November 2nd, 2026, to be bestowed the ANA Fellowship Award and Induction which has been bestowed upon him since 2023.

In his response , the SDU Vice Chancellor, Prof Sunny Awhefeada , expressed delight at Delta ANA's solidarity visit, describing writers as "the conscience of the nation".

He affirmed his administration's readiness to prioritize literature, arts, and humanities , adding that the visit has signposted the quest for a literary sojourn , with the presence of members of "Poets in Nigeria Initiative" being coincidentally present .

The SDU Vice Chancellor therefore agreed to attend the 45th ANA International Conference coming up in Abuja to be bestowed his ANA Fellowship Award , which was announced since 2023.

Highpoint of the solidarity visit , was the presentation to Professor Awhefeada , a Portrait of Honour , while he in turn presented souvenirs and copies of jotters of the Prof Sam Oyovbaire's recent Public Service Lecture on "Federal Statecraft Without Crafters: The Nigerian Predicament", to the ANA Delta Chapter .

Other Executive members on the visit included Come Mamus Degreat Edjeba ( Secretary), and Mr Joseph Evughaye ( Treasurer ). Others include Prof Macaulay Mowarin, Dr Ifowodo as well as Student members of the Association from DELSU, Abraka.
