Second Anniversary of Ehiwarior: The Footprints Are Visible ~ Truth Reporters

Twenty-four months is long enough for the record of an administration to take  shape. Communities begin to experience the outcomes of government decisions, public investments gather momentum, and citizens are better placed to evaluate governance through the changes taking place around them.

For Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior , Chairman of Ika South Local Government, the second anniversary of his administration presents an opportunity to reflect on the progress recorded since assuming office. Across Ika South, investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education , economic development, security and empowerment have touched communities in different parts of the local government.

Since assuming office, the administration has pursued a development agenda centred on practical interventions. Its priorities have remained clear: improving infrastructure, expanding access to essential services, supporting enterprises and creating opportunities that enhance the quality of life for residents.

Road infrastructure has received sustained attention because of its importance to everyday life.  Improved roads and bridges enhance movement, connect communities , facilitate trade and provide easier access to farms, schools and healthcare facilities. These projects have strengthened connectivity while supporting economic activities across the local government.

 The administration has also recognised the strategic role of markets in local economic growth. Beyond serving as centres of commerce, markets provide livelihoods for thousands of families. Through the construction and rehabilitation of market infrastructure, traders now operate in cleaner , safer and more organised environment, creating conditions that encourage business expansion and improve the overall trading experience.

Healthcare has remained an important area of intervention. Efforts to improve health facilities, alongside community water projects,  have expanded access to essential services and improved living conditions in benefiting communities.  These investments underscore the understanding that healthy communities provide the strongest foundation for sustainable development.

Education has equally remained a key priority. Through bursary schemes and other educational interventions, students have received support to pursue their academic aspirations with greater confidence. Investment in education is an investment in the future, and the administration has continued to demonstrate that commitment.

Recognising that lasting development depends on the productivity and enterprise of the people, the administration has implemented empowerment programmes benefiting youths, women,  artisans and small business owners. These initiatives have created opportunities for self-employment, strengthened existing businesses and enabled many families to improve their sources of income.

Peace and security have also received deliberate attention. Through the provision of logistics support to security agencies and local vigilante groups, the administration has strengthened collaborative efforts aimed at protecting lives and property. These interventions have enhanced the operational capacity of security personnel while contributing to a safer environment for residents and businesses.

The administration has equally supported improved electricity supply through the provision of transformers to communities where power infrastructure required reinforcements. Stable electricity remains essential for households, artisans and small  businesses, making these interventions important contributions to local economic growth and improved living standards.

Another notable feature of the past two years has been the spread of projects and programmes across different communities within Ika South. This reflects a deliberate effort to ensure that the dividends of governance are not concentrated in a few locations but shared across the local government, allowing more people to benefit from public investment.

Governance is a continuous responsibility. Every completed project creates new expectations, while every challenge presents another opportunity for service. The work of development therefore demands consistency, responsiveness and a willingness to sustain development momentum on previous achievements.

With one year remaining in the current tenure, attention is naturally turning to the completion of ongoing projects and the delivery of additional initiatives that will consolidate the progress already made. The final year presents an opportunity to strengthen existing gains while extending development to even more communities.

The second anniversary of the Ehiwarior- led administration is therefore more than a milestone. It provides an opportunity to assess a record defined by investments in infrastructure, improved public services, educational support, healthcare , economic empowerment, enhanced security and community development.

For the people and residents of Ika South, the value of governance is reflected in the quality of their daily lives - in the roads they travel, the markets where they earn a living,  the schools their children and wards attend, the healthcare services available to them, the security of their communities and the opportunities they have to build a better future.

As Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior enters the final year of his mandate, the responsibility is clear:  to complete ongoing projects, sustain the momentum of development and leave behind a legacy that will continue to benefit the people and residents of Ika South for years to come.
