APC Primary: Basil Ganagana Campaign Dismisses Mutu's Claims of Manipulation, Urges Acceptance of Outcome

The Basil Ganagana Campaign Organization has dismissed allegations surrounding the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat, insisting that Rt. Hon. Basil Okolobaowei Ganagana emerged winner through a transparent and democratic process.

In a statement signed by Chancellor of the campaign organization, Comrade Chris E. Anthony, the group described reports questioning the outcome of the May 15, 2026 APC primaries as false and misleading, alleging that some supporters of Rt. Hon. Nicholas Mutu were attempting to distort the results following Ganagana’s emergence as the party’s candidate.

The campaign organization specifically criticized media reports and social media narratives suggesting that Mutu won the primary election, maintaining that Ganagana secured victory convincingly across the constituency.

According to the statement, the outcome of the primary reflected what it described as growing demands by stakeholders and party members for leadership renewal and broader political participation in Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency.

The campaign group argued that political sentiments within the constituency had shifted over time, claiming that constituents had increasingly sought fresh representation and expanded opportunities for democratic participation.

It further alleged that concerns over representation, infrastructural development, and environmental challenges affecting communities within the constituency contributed to changing political dynamics ahead of the primary election.

The organization also referenced previous protests and political activities in parts of the constituency and at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja as indicators of calls for change within the constituency.

Reacting to reports circulated by online media platforms, including a publication it claimed suggested that Mutu won the primary despite APC stakeholders recognizing Ganagana’s emergence, the campaign organization insisted that no media narrative could overturn what it described as the clearly expressed will of party members.

The statement urged Rt. Hon. Nicholas Mutu to accept the outcome of the primary election in the interest of party unity and democratic values.

"It is important to emphasize that democracy requires not only the courage to contest elections, but also the maturity and honour to accept defeat when the people have spoken," the statement said.

The organization further maintained that Ganagana’s emergence represented what it described as a new political direction for Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency and expressed confidence that party stakeholders would unite ahead of the general election.
