Growing Pressure on Ehiwarior as Youth, Women, Teachers Back Him for Ika Reps Race ~ Truth Reporters

With each passing day, the calls grow louder.

Across communities in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, a broad coalition of youths, market women, artisans, primary school teachers, religious bodies, and students is mounting sustained pressure on Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior to declare his interest in the House of Representatives seat for Ika Federal Constituency.

What began as quiet political whispers has steadily transformed into open advocacy, with supporters insisting that the time has come for Ehiwarior to step into the race and offer what they describe as “tested leadership, visible capacity, and people-centered representation.”

For many of them, the demand is not driven by sentiment alone, but by what they see as a track record of performance, accessibility, and responsible leadership.

Speaking during separate interactions across the constituency, several stakeholders maintained that Ehiwarior has distinguished himself through practical governance and a leadership style rooted in service rather than political theatrics.

A youth leader in Agbor, Mr. Ndidi  Okwurionu, described him as a man whose administrative style has earned public confidence beyond partisan boundaries.

“Leadership is not about noise; it is about results,” he said, adding that, “Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior has shown capacity where it matters. People can point to his impact, not just promises. That is why many of us believe he should represent Ika at the federal level.”

According to him, Ika Federal Constituency requires a representative with both political maturity and administrative experience, qualities he said Ehiwarior has consistently demonstrated.

Leaders from both the Christian and Muslim communities also joined the growing call, describing Ehiwarior as a leader whose sense of responsibility and accessibility cuts across religious and social lines.

A respected Christian cleric in Agbor, noted that leadership should be measured by service and integrity rather than mere political ambition.

“We have watched his approach to governance and community relations. He has shown calmness, responsibility, and a genuine concern for people. These are qualities needed in higher office,” he said.

Similarly, a leader within the Muslim community, Yakubu Abubakar, said Ehiwarior’s appeal lies in his ability to connect with ordinary citizens without discrimination.

“Good leadership must be inclusive. What many people see in him is fairness, humility, and the willingness to listen. That is why many are asking him to step forward,” he stated.

At major markets across the local government area, traders and artisans are also adding their voices to the growing campaign.

A market women leader, Mrs Comfort Ebimaro, said the push for Ehiwarior reflects grassroots trust built over time.

“We are not calling him because of politics alone; we are calling him because we have seen leadership that listens. When people in authority understand the struggles of ordinary people, they deserve bigger responsibility," she declared.

An artisan leader, Comrade Peter Ehiwogun, echoed similar sentiments, noting that representation at the House of Representatives requires someone who understands both policy and the realities of daily survival.

“We need someone who can speak for the people, not just speak in Abuja,” he stated, adding that, "Jerry has shown he understands the people from the ground up.”

Primary school teachers, many of whom interviewed, referenced improvements in welfare and prompt salary payments as part of his leadership influence, and described him as a dependable public servant who understands institutional responsibility.

One teacher, who pleaded anonymity, said the support from educators is rooted in lived experience.

“When people talk about leadership, we remember those who stood by workers when it mattered,” she said, and added, “We have seen his commitment to teachers and public service. We believe he can take that same seriousness to the National Assembly.”

Several teachers argued that governance should reward competence, not merely political calculation.

Among students and younger voters, there is also a growing sense that the constituency needs fresh energy and strategic representation.

A student union representative Victor Osemele, said many young people see Ehiwarior as someone capable of bridging governance and youth aspirations.

“We want representation that understands education, employment, and opportunity. There is a belief that he can easily connect local needs with national solutions," he said.

He added that young people are increasingly interested in leadership defined by substance rather than slogans.

Despite the mounting calls, Ehiwarior has yet to make any formal declaration regarding the race.

Political observers say the sustained grassroots endorsement is gradually shifting the conversation around the Ika Federal Constituency contest, especially as stakeholders continue to weigh competence, zoning considerations, and electoral strength.

Many believe that should he decide to enter the race, he would immediately become a major force in the contest.

For supporters, however, the issue goes beyond electoral permutations.

They insist the growing appeal for Ehiwarior to contest is rooted in a simple conviction -  that leadership should be entrusted to those who have demonstrated both character and capacity.

As one elderly community leader who craved anonimity because of his political affiliation puts it: “Sometimes, people do not need to campaign for power; the people call them to service. What we are seeing is not just politics -it is a call for responsibility.”

Whether he answers that call remains to be seen, but one thing is becoming increasingly clear: in the evolving political equation of Ika Federal Constituency, the name Jerry Ehiwarior is no longer being mentioned in whispers. It is being spoken loudly, and with growing expectation.
