Easter: Reps Minority Caucus Calls for National Renewal, Urges Decisive Action on Insecurity ~ Truth Reporters

 

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has extended warm Easter greetings to Christians across Nigeria, marking the successful completion of the Lenten season.

In a goodwill message jointly signed by caucus leaders, Rep. Kingsley Chinda, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Isa J.C., Minority Whip Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi, and the Deputy Minority Whip, the lawmakers described Easter as a season that reflects sacrifice, redemption, and the triumph of hope over despair—values they say remain crucial to Nigeria’s current realities.

The caucus noted that the 40-day period of fasting and prayer should serve as a foundation for moral renewal, urging Nigerians to sustain the discipline, selflessness, and spiritual reflection cultivated during Lent.

They emphasized the need for citizens to embody values such as love, forgiveness, and compassion, especially as the nation navigates complex socio-political and economic challenges. 

According to the lawmakers, these principles are essential for fostering unity, strengthening resilience, and promoting collective responsibility toward building a more just and harmonious society.

However, the caucus expressed concern that the Easter celebration is overshadowed by persistent insecurity across the country. It specifically highlighted the ongoing killings and kidnappings in parts of Plateau and Benue States, describing the situation as a serious threat to national peace and stability.

The lawmakers called on the Federal Government to move beyond rhetoric and adopt decisive, coordinated measures to address the security crisis. They stressed the need to fully equip and empower security agencies to act proactively in dismantling criminal networks and restoring confidence among citizens.

They also urged religious leaders and Nigerians at large to continue praying for the nation and its leaders, seeking divine guidance in addressing the country’s numerous challenges.

At what they described as a critical moment in Nigeria’s history, the caucus called for purposeful and courageous leadership to tackle issues of poverty and economic hardship affecting citizens.

The statement concluded by urging Nigerians to embrace unity, tolerance, and reconciliation, noting that Easter symbolizes new beginnings and offers an opportunity for national rebirth and collective progress.
