Reps Minority Caucus Condemns Maiduguri Bomb Blasts, Demands Stronger Security ~ Truth Reporters

The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has condemned in strong terms the recent triple bomb explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State, which claimed 23 lives and left over 100 others injured.

In a statement jointly signed by the Minority Leader, Rep. Kingsley Chinda; Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Isa J.C; Deputy Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Madaki; and Deputy Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi, the lawmakers described the attacks as barbaric and unacceptable.

The caucus expressed deep sorrow over the coordinated blasts, which occurred at the Maiduguri Main Market, the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office Flyover, noting that the incidents happened simultaneously while residents were engaged in their daily activities.

According to the lawmakers, the timing of the attacks during the holy periods of Ramadan and Lent further underscores the cruelty of the perpetrators.

“The Caucus is saddened and pained that these horrific attacks were carried out at a time when people were going about their lawful businesses. It is even more disturbing that such acts were executed during sacred periods, reflecting total disregard for human life and religious values,” the statement read.

While commiserating with the families of the victims as well as the government and people of Borno State, the caucus called on the Federal Government to urgently step up its response to the tragedy.

It specifically urged the immediate deployment of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant bodies to provide improved medical care and humanitarian support for those affected.

The lawmakers also tasked the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies to swiftly track down and prosecute those responsible for the attacks.

They further emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration among security agencies to strengthen surveillance and prevent future occurrences in Maiduguri and other vulnerable areas.

“As a responsible and responsive caucus, we remain committed to initiating and supporting legislative measures that will address the root causes of insecurity and ensure lasting solutions,” the statement added.
