...As ASDEV ’81 Club Gives Back to Society

The Delta State Government has disclosed plans to significantly boost the supply of classroom furniture in public primary schools across the state, with the ongoing production of over 30,000 chairs and tables for pupils.

This was revealed yesterday by the immediate past Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, during the presentation of 200 tables and chairs to Ahabam Primary School, Asaba, by the USA Chapter of the ASDEV ’81 Club of Asaba.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Ashibogwu commended the ASDEV ’81 Club for the intervention, describing it as a timely gesture aimed at improving the learning environment and motivating both pupils and teachers.

He noted that funding education should not be seen as the sole responsibility of government, urging well-meaning individuals and corporate organisations to emulate the club’s example in giving back to society.

“As a state government, we are not relenting on the issue of furniture in our schools. The production of over 30,000 chairs and tables is ongoing, and very soon distribution will commence,” he said.

Ashibogwu also thanked the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for prioritising education, adding that the government remained committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. 

He further charged the school management and the Asaba community to safeguard the furniture against vandalism.

In his remarks, the Asagba of Asaba, HRM Obi (Prof.) Epiphany Azinge, SAN, who commissioned the 200 tables and chairs as well as 1,000 notebooks donated to the school, said the initiative of the ASDEV ’81 Club aligned with the social infrastructure agenda of his administration. 

He commended the club for the laudable effort. The monarch, while calling for increased government intervention in the education sector, assured that the Asaba community would continue to support initiatives aimed at attracting sustainable development and the dividends of democracy.

Earlier, the Project Committee Chairman of the ASDEV ’81 Club of Asaba, USA Chapter, Ogbueshi Emmanuel Obi, represented by Ogbueshi Ephraim Okotcha, said the donation was part of the club’s commitment to supporting the future of children and contributing to the development of the Asaba community.

“Instead of waiting for others to act, we decided to take the first step. When you lift a child, you lift a family, and when you lift families, you lift an entire community. Our children are our future, and investing in them is investing in Asaba,” he said.

Goodwill messages were also delivered by the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area, Dr. Kelvin Ezenyili, who was represented by the Leader of the Oshimili South Legislative Council, Michael Okonji; the Headmistress of Ahabam Primary School, Mrs. Elizabeth Echenua; and the Chairman of ASDEV ’81 Club, USA Chapter, Ogbueshi Larry Okolo.
