Niger School Attack: Ugly Trend Must Stop Now, Reps Minority Caucus Tells FG ~ Truth Reporters

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has condemned the Friday abduction of students and staff of St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, describing the incident as a national embarrassment that must be urgently halted.

The caucus, in a statement jointly signed by its leaders—Minority Leader, Rep. O.K. Chinda; Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Ali Isa J.C.; Deputy Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Madaki; and Deputy Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi—expressed deep concern over the rising wave of school attacks across the country.

The lawmakers lamented that suspected terrorists stormed the school in the early hours of Friday, November 21, abducting several students and workers in a manner they described as “shocking and highly disturbing.”

They noted that both the Niger State Government and the Catholic Diocese of Kontagora had confirmed the incident, further underscoring the worsening security situation.

“These brazen actions of criminality are causing global embarrassment to Nigeria and must be stopped,” the caucus stated, urging security agencies to “think outside the box” to restore national dignity and public confidence.

They called for intensified efforts to rescue the abductees safely, praying for a hitch-free operation.

The Minority Caucus also urged the Federal Government to embark on a massive recruitment drive across security agencies and explore decisive measures, including external collaborations, to better safeguard the lives of citizens.

Reminding the Executive of its constitutional duty, the statement stressed: “The main purpose of government is the security and welfare of the people as enshrined in Section 14(2)(b) of the Constitution, and the government is failing in these all-important responsibilities.”

The caucus commiserated with the families of the victims and prayed for the safe return of all the abducted students and staff.
