HoR Minority Caucus Mourns Agbese, Hails Him as Media Colossus, Quintessential Professional ~ Truth Reporters

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran journalist, Mr. Dan Agbese, describing him as a media colossus and a quintessential professional whose contributions to national discourse will remain indelible.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by caucus leaders: Rep. O. K. Chinda, Minority Leader; Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Isa J.C., Minority Whip; Rt. Hon. Aliyu Madaki, Deputy Minority Leader; and Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi, Deputy Minority Whip.

The Caucus said: “It is with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss that the Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives expresses our heartfelt condolences to the Agbese family, the government and people of Benue State, and the entire Fourth Estate of the Realm on the passing of Mr. Dan Agbese.

“As a Caucus, we are heartbroken by the death of a quintessential professional and patriot who, in his lifetime, achieved enduring legacies of leadership, mentorship, and excellence.

“As a foremost journalist and media entrepreneur, Agbese was an inspiration to many. From the New Nigerian to the Nigerian Standard and Newswatch, where he served meritoriously as Editor, Co-Founder, and Editor-in-Chief respectively—he positively shaped the careers of countless journalists who passed through his tutelage.

“A serial winner of numerous national and international awards, Agbese distinguished himself through incisive writings, bold commentaries, and courageous opinions, emerging as one of the most forceful voices against military dictatorship and political subjugation in Nigeria.

“Though pained that he died at a time when his wealth of knowledge, experience, and wisdom are sorely needed as the nation forges ahead in the quest for development, the Caucus takes solace in the reality that through his words, actions, and sacrifices, Agbese remains a worthy mirror and veritable compass for present and future generations of media practitioners and citizens alike.

“The Caucus prays that God Almighty grants his family, associates, and admirers the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. We also pray that God will repose his soul and grant him eternal rest.”
