Omene, Egone, emerge National President, VP of TCULA, harp on unity among all Urhobo clans ~ Truth Reporters

A former President-General ( PG) worldwide, of the Urhobo Progress Union, Chief Joe Omene, has highlighted the critical importance of fostering unity among the diverse Urhobo clans, just as he advocated for peaceful coexistence and collaborative problem- solving approaches , to address internal conflicts

Chief Omene, made the appeal in his inaugural address after his formal inauguration as pioneer National President of the Traditional Chiefs of Urhobo Land Association(TCULA), a body of Urhobo Chiefs , established to strengthen the institutions of traditional governance and drive socio-economic progress within Urhobo Land .

While conveying his heartfelt appreciation to the Traditional rulers , elders, chiefs, and the broader Urhobo community for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him to lead the all important group, Chief Omene articulated a comprehensive vision aimed at cultural revitalization, emphasizing the preservation and promotion of Urhobo heritage as a cornerstone for community identity and pride.

The former UPU PG said TCULA was borne out of the urgent need for all 24 Urhobo kingdoms , to unite and speak with one voice , in pursuit of progress , peace and prosperity, affirming that "today marks the beginning of a new era , an era where no one can call Urhobo weak or divided. We must rise as one people and one voice"

Chief Omene clarified that TCULA is not created to compete with any other body , including the Urhobo Progress Union ( UPU), but to complement their efforts , adding that the Association's  (TCULA) goal is simply to protect Urhobo values , support development, and give fatherly advice to the district,s sons and daughters at home and the diaspora.

Central to his agenda, the seasoned Urhobo traditional leader known for his unwavering commitment to advocacy and community development, revealed that the empowerment of youth, seen as the vital force for sustaining long-term development and innovation in Urhobo land, will be vigorously pursued.

Omene, whose inauguration as National President of the Traditional Chiefs of Urhobo land Association, followed a rigorous and widely supported selection process reflecting the collective aspirations of all stakeholders, also hinted at the necessity of building strategic partnerships with government agencies, civil society organizations, and private sector stakeholders , to enhance the welfare and economic opportunities available to the Urhobo people .

The new National President, therefore called on all Urhobo Chiefs to close ranks and embrace the new association as a tool for unity and progress , stating that "we have suffered enough setbacks due to division and individualism".

Earlier , the Chairman of the occasion , Chief M.B Akponinor, JP, hailed the association,s formation , describing it as a timely intervention.

He noted that the 24 Urhobo kings ( Ivies) , cannot do everything alone , but with the chiefs as their eyes and ears, through TCULA, they can collectively monitor developments , advise the monarchs, and ensure that nothing harmful comes to the Urhobo nation .

The historic inauguration  event which was marked  by vibrant traditional rites and cultural dances , climaxed in an official parade that symbolized the deep-rooted customs and shared history of the Urhobo people .

In their separate goodwill messages , prominent chiefs and community leaders , paid glowing tributes to Chief Omene,s extensive leadership integrity, steadfast dedication to preserving Urhobo traditions while embracing the realities of modern governance and development challenges.

The new National Executives of TCULA that were presented certificates included Chief Joe Omene ( National President), Chief Patrick Egone ( National Vice President), Chief Prince Akpoene ( National Secretary) , and Chief M.T Okenini., ( Deputy National Spokesman).

Others include Chief Terry Brume Ezewu ( Administrative Secretary ), Chief Grace Usirare ( Director of Women Affairs), and Chief Benson Onyeigha ( National Coordinator)
