Nigeria @65: Political, Economic Structures Need Timely Reforms – Reps Minority Caucus ~ Truth Reporters

The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has urged Nigerians to use the 65th Independence Anniversary as a moment of sober reflection, stressing that the country must confront the hard truth that its political and economic structures require deliberate and timely reforms.

 

The caucus made this call in a joint statement signed by its leaders: Rep. Kingsley Chinda, Minority Leader; Rt. Hon. (Dr) Ali Isa J.C, Minority Whip; Rt. Hon. Aliyu Madaki, Deputy Minority Leader; and Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi, Deputy Minority Whip.

 

“As we all celebrate another year of freedom from colonial rule, the Caucus salutes the sacrifices of our founding fathers and other heroes past who gave everything for the independence we all enjoy today,” the statement read.

 

It noted that independence anniversaries provide opportunities for “sincere reflection and objective introspection,” urging Nigerians to look back on the journey of nationhood with honesty, fairness, and firmness.

 

“It is only when we are true and factual about our state of nationhood that the country can wriggle out of stymied development towards achieving her full potential as a prosperous country,” the caucus declared.

 

According to the statement, Nigeria continues to grapple with governance challenges, insecurity, hunger, youth unemployment, poverty, and infrastructure deficits. It lamented that the ideals of equity, fairness, and justice, which should unite Nigerians, are being undermined, thereby threatening national cohesion.

 

“We must also face the uncomfortable truth that our political and economic structures need deliberate and timely reforms. More importantly, the distribution of resources must prioritize every Nigerian, regardless of region, religion, ethnicity, or any other narrow considerations,” the caucus stated.

 

Calling for accountability and genuine commitment to the welfare of the people by leaders at all levels, the lawmakers emphasized the need for inclusivity and unity in nation-building.

 

“No single group, no matter how powerful, can achieve meaningful progress in isolation. It is imperative for us to unite as one nation. It is only through a shared sense of purpose, understanding, and cooperation that we can overcome our difficulties and emerge stronger,” they said.

 

The caucus further urged Nigerians to recommit to the values of peace, unity, and development, noting that the nation’s greatness depends on the collective resolve of its citizens.

 

“On this day, we call on all citizens to renew our hope and commitment to a greater Nigeria. May we rise from the ashes of our challenges and build a nation that fulfills the dreams of our founding fathers, and the expectations of the present and future generations. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
