Delta Pensioners get #10bn lifeline, as Exco reviews key infrastructure contracts ~ Truth Reporters

To offset the pension liabilities inherited from previous administrations, the Delta State Executive Council has approved the disbursement of #10 billion to buoy up the living standards of the affected senior citizens

In the same breath , Exco reviewed timelines for key infrastructural projects , such as two major flyovers , the Uromi junction, in Agbor , lka South, and Otovwodo junction in Ughelli North respectively .

Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the Thursday October 9th, 2025 Exco meeting presided over by Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, on the directive of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who was unavoidably absent, the Commissioner for Works ( Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu , said the #10 bn lifeline for pensioners was in fulfillment of Governor Oborevwori,s promise to ease the hardship of pensioners , in addition to defraying inherited pension liabilities .

Flanked by his Economic Planning colleague, Mr Sunny Ekedayen, Housing, Hon Godknows Angele, and Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, Mr Aniagwu disclosed that a Committee has been set up to ensure the funds get to deserving beneficiaries without bias or interference .

He emphasized that the move was part of the administration,s broader commitment to improving the welfare of citizens under the MORE Agenda, and making life more liveable for senior citizens, who had served the state diligently .

On the review of completion date timelines for some projects, Aniagwu said the Agbor flyover, to be constructed by construction giants, Julius Berger , initially scheduled for completion in 24 months, has been revised to 18 months, while the Ughelli flyover at Otovwodo junction, has been reduced from 24 months to 14 months

"These adjustments", the Commissioner said , "are aimed at delivering the projects faster , to ease movement and boost economic activities"

He also disclosed that Exco also terminated some non-performing contracts across the state , as some contractors failed to meet performance expectations , and since government promptly mobilizes and pays for certified jobs, it cannot allow delays or negligence.

The Commissioner therefore reaffirmed the Oborevwori administration,s commitment to people oriented governance , transparency, and accelerated infrastructural renewal across the state
