Delta Assembly Passes Landmark Anti-Terrorism, Colleges of Education Bills ~ Truth Reporters

 

 

The Delta State House of Assembly has taken bold legislative strides with the passage of two critical bills,  the Delta State Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Cultism (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Delta State Colleges of Education Bill, marking another milestone in the state’s pursuit of safety, stability, and educational excellence.

 

Speaking after presiding over Wednesday’s plenary where both bills were read the third time and passed, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, described the Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Cultism (Amendment) Bill as a definitive declaration of government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

 

According to him, the amendment provides a stronger legal framework for law enforcement agencies to operate effectively, ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes face the full weight of the law.

 

“The significance of this amendment cannot be overstated,” Guwor said. “By strengthening our existing laws, we are sending an unambiguous message to all purveyors of crime and instability that there is no hiding place for them in Delta State.”

 

He commended members of the Assembly for their patriotism, unity of purpose, and intellectual rigor throughout the legislative process, noting that their contributions reflected a shared vision for peace and progress.

 

In a related development, the Speaker also hailed the passage of the Delta State Colleges of Education Bill, describing it as a momentous milestone for the future of education in the state.

 

Guwor noted that the bill’s journey from its presentation to the first and second readings, committee scrutiny, and eventual passage, demonstrated the Assembly’s steadfast commitment to educational advancement and the welfare of Deltans.

 

He explained that the new law would harmonize the operations of Colleges of Education in Delta State, enhance academic excellence, and ensure a uniform system of administration across institutions.

 

“The passage of this bill represents a significant step toward strengthening teacher education, improving the quality of our graduates, and building a more efficient and globally competitive education system,” the Speaker emphasized.

 

Rt. Hon. Guwor particularly applauded the Chairman and Members of the House Committee on Education for their diligence, detailed scrutiny, and productive engagement with stakeholders during the public hearing.
