Delta LGSC Reaffirms Commitment to Staff Training ~ Truth Reporters

 

The Delta State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has reiterated its commitment to continuous capacity building for its workforce, with the training of 100 Works Superintendents, drivers, and mechanics in its employment.

 

The two-day seminar, organised in collaboration with M.C. Agbamu Agency, was part of the Commission’s mandate to ensure regular training and retraining of local government staff. It was held at the conference hall of Okay Hotels, Ozoro, and featured seasoned resource persons.

 

Tagged “Enhancing Professional Driving Skills and Road Safety Awareness with First Aid and Emergency Response (CPR Inclusive),” the programme was declared open by the Commission’s Chairman, Hon. Deacon Joseph Otirhue, who was represented by the 2nd Board Member, Princess (Dame) Minnie Igbrude.

 

In her remarks, Dame Igbrude reminded participants of their vital role in protecting lives and property through safe and efficient mobility. 

She stressed that transportation is the lifeblood of any society, hence officers entrusted with such responsibility must be properly trained to safeguard the public.

 

“Professional driving is not just about moving a vehicle from one point to another,” she said. 

“It requires discipline, patience, respect for traffic laws, and continuous improvement of skills. A true professional driver combines technical competence with responsibility, courtesy, and sound judgement.”

 

She further noted that many road accidents in Nigeria could be prevented if drivers adhered to best practices, paid attention to mechanical issues, and provided timely medical response in emergencies.

 

The Commission’s representative charged participants to pay close attention to the lessons, practice the demonstrations, and apply the knowledge in their workplaces. 

She added that every repaired vehicle, every trip undertaken, and every emergency attended to was an opportunity to uphold the dignity of human life.

 

The training was described as impactful and timely, aimed at enhancing professionalism and reducing accidents among government workers.
