Utagba-Ogbe Elders’ Visit to Deputy Governor Onyeme Draws Full Community Backing — Edeme

The President-General of Utagba-Ogbe Kingdom, Chief (Engr.) Ifeanyi Edeme, has declared the community’s full support for the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, describing recent criticism of a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor as “disrespectful and shameful.”

In a statement personally signed and made available to journalists on Sunday, Chief Edeme said the visit — which took place on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 — was led by respected elders, titled chiefs, youth leaders, and Okwas from the kingdom. 

The delegation had met with Onyeme in Asaba to express appreciation and discuss issues of unity, peace, and development in Utagba-Ogbe.

“It’s very unfortunate to see how some people have turned a peaceful and progressive move into an opportunity for insults and name-calling,” Edeme stated. “This visit was not for personal benefit, but for the good of our people and our land.”

The community leader stressed that all the leaders who took part in the visit have demonstrated commitment to the service of Utagba-Ogbe and should be commended rather than attacked.

“If we truly want progress, we must support peace-building efforts like this one. The Deputy Governor is our own, and such engagements bring results,” he added.

Chief Edeme urged residents to prioritize unity, respect, and cooperation over hatred and division, calling for mature disagreement and constructive criticism.

“Peace over insults, unity over division, progress over politics. Utagba-Ogbe must rise,” he declared.
